What did you do to your TJ today?

Yeah... put in new exterior and interior handles a few weeks ago. Took me roughly 45 minutes a side and 3 large bandaids some Bactine and roughly $15 bucks in the swear jar.

LOL yeah, I had my classic electrical taped paper towl on my little finger which caught the edge inside the door and started leaking red stuff everywhere.

Also today had to replace an outer door handle. What a crazy sustem that holds these suckers in! I mean, it couldn't just be a couple nuts? Seriously, two toothed wedged things with a locking spring? Anyway, got the passenger replaced which was so worn that it wouldn't engeage the latch, just bound on itself. Gonna do drivers later, tho it's working fine for the time being. Apex came with two new outer door handles, so at least they are free.

While I'll admit the system is a bit strange, they could have made them much easier to work with by making one small change to the door shells and a tweak to the wedges.

Removing them isn't bad (unless maybe rust) but installing them tightly can be a PITA. When removing and installing Tessie's for a second time, I added this hole to the door shell sheet metal (the one in red, obviously).

It should be a pierced and reinforced hole, but it works as is. Between this new hole and the existing one (circled in yellow), you can easily get the wedges set properly with a large screwdriver or small pry bar. I also tweaked (handed) the ends of the wedges to make them easier to manipulate and get a better bite on when setting.

The fact that these door handles, odd as they may be, can still be completely disassembled for repair/refinishing in minutes with basic hand tools is pretty feckin' cool.

Durable, mostly metal, no electronics. :geek:

Yeah, I used long allen wrench from the window side of the door to press/tap down the wedge while pushing in on the door handle. It worked well enough and I think i'm at least three teeth deep on the clip, but whatever it is, the handle is tight.

On mine, the end of the little cam that pushes the latch rod lever actually wore off at the end. It allowed the lever it pushes to over center and jam the whole handle assembly. My drivers side is still working, but after doing this replacement on the passengers side and lubing everyting, the passenger side works like butter, so Im going to do the drivers side as well when I get some time.

How much does one swear word cost you? And do worse words cost more? We need some ground rules here lol

This is not a simple answer. If my grandkid is helping me it's a 5 spot each and we go to the toy store afterward. All words are equal. If it's just me they're a quarter each and I get to use the Jar for a beer run.

Does that help?

My wife has a mouth like a drunken sailor. Can I make her pay me to listen to her talk to herself and swear? I try not to say more than 10 words on a 5 hour drive, yet there's never a moment of silence. She's semi-retired as of last month and the time together is killing me. I was hoping I could at least make some cash with a swear jar. That's gotta be good for $30 an hour minimum. 🤑

Hmm I wonder if this is worth saving for blackmail material........ :ROFLMAO: :cool::cool:

Blackmail is racist. I'm telling BB about this. She will be pissed and wander into the arms of @AndyG again.They never forget/forgive their first love. Her windshield was spotless back then. :cool:

But I could end up with a red "lost Cause" from a disgruntled soon to be ex wife...........

Wait that could almost be a 3 way winning situation :oops: :oops: :ROFLMAO:

@AndyG gets BB

@John Cooper gets LC

@TheBoogieman gets a new ex.....

After the sodomy that pervert has committed on that rig….I’m not sure how I’d feel about that.

And lastly, the AC isn't working. Not sure why yet, haven't had any time to diagnose, but this is a bummer.... still the sucker runs and drives lol

My buddy was bored today so he headed up with a can of R134 and the hose to play around. AC clutch started kicking on and off and then we saw bubbles on one of the rubber hoses, so I know where at least one leak is. Thinking I'll replace the rubber lines and the drier and hope that resolves the leak.

I'm pretty damn happy except my reverse lights aren't working. The harness underneath was freakin' fried and i did lots of repairs, but maybe that's an issue. I tested the trans switch and it tested good, so I've got some work to do there.
Had time to check this out today, easiest fix I've had to do in a long time. Fuse #7 was not in place. Stuck a 10a fuse in there and voila! I have reverse lights! I'm sure with how dicked up the harness was underneath it was popping this fuse.

Now, the radio doesn't work either, so gonna look at that. She is almost inspectable now tho.

Sounds like a 20 minute drive could net you a nice burger, fries and a cold one.... Time to glue a container to the dash!

Drove home after dark last night for the first time since last winter and discovered my headlights were basically useless due to wiring issues. Had to drive home on the fog lights. So I spent the morning figuring out where all that needed attention and trying to find my wiring tools without much success. I suspect the teenager grandson has been working on his truck again

Swapped the heater core today, after the second Performance radiator core filled the cabin with steam I ordered a Brass works core. It was really less work than I was anticipating which was quite pleasant. The Brass Works core is a total tank compared to the aluminum and plastic version

I’m running a CSF brass radiator and it’s same way
