2000 4.0, 5 speed, Daily Driver
Did some front end work about a week ago...extended lower CA's to correct caster and alignment.
Drove 20 miles to work this morning, hit a few clients then made it about 16 miles into the return trip home. Mostly highway, tons of traffic but with no issues. No rogue noises, no shakes or shimmy's, no odor and absolutely no issues with steering.
Exiting the highway into a clockwise cloverleaf to the right which went fine. Road straightens out leading up to a stop sign and then a left turn. Road clears and I head straight across the first two lanes and turn the steering wheel to the left and it's frozen. Won't turn left. It felt like it was at the end of its' travel. I was lucky that I could go straight into a parking lot which I did and right into a parking spot. Absolutely no warning. No clunks, noises, drips, groaning or other indication that there was a problem. No hanging or misaligned parts. Visual inspection looks in good order. Fluid stain in the picture below isn't from the TJ.
I am lucky to be parked, Jeep running with the wheels straight, but I still can't turn the wheel left. Turned it to the right to full lock, which it did without issue and that's where then locks. Fully turned to passenger and no way to turn it straight. Feels dead locked frozen turning to driver and at full lock to passenger. Rolls without issue, though I don't want to move it out of the spot it's in.
Could have had a very different ending. Now faced with getting it flat bedded and sorted.
