I’m interested in the “why” behind the posts, not the “where” and “when”.

There’s a reason for why we do things, and that’s what I am attempting to learn.

You’re going to have to spoon feed me what you’re getting at.

Everything I've said here and in Jeff’s thread seem pretty self explanatory.

While I can't say I totally agree with Rory I do know that I've broken 3 5.13 gear sets.

1) 35" tires but I think it was due to a loose pinion nut.

2) 38" tires but installed by a professional shop who I trusted

3) 38" tires installed by a 2nd shop

4) Super 60 R&P I installed so we'll see what happens. Also installed a load bolt with tight BL.

Using KOH rigs as an example compared to our rigs isn't even close to apples to apples.

Jeff is heavy just like mine is. Does that matter? I'm sure it does.
Remember he was running a HP60 in the rear of his rig same as mine. We're all shocked that he broke a 14 bolt...

My understanding on the 5.89 gears there is actually more teeth contact. I could be mistaken but that is what I know.

Why bring up Rory's negative opinions of 5.38s?

If that's true, then you should find it easy to answer my question. I also request to be spoon fed.

I don’t believe I’m the one with the comprehension problem. You have a point you want to make. Make it.

I don’t think the contact patch is related to the number of teeth but to the gear design and tooth profile. That’s why the gear manufacturer choice is important. The more contact the smoother and better engagement you will experience. What the higher gear ratio does is increase torque. This could explain why they experience more breakage in a high traction environment, but I recant if someone more qualified than I knows better. That means most of you here. 🙂

I comprehend your little dig just fine.

You just asked me to spoon feed you, which I did by asking the direct question "Why bring up Rory's negative opinions of 5.38s?".

You then refused to answer, and we know you refused to answer since you don't have a comprehension problem.

That tells me all I need to know.

That breakage for you was a hi pinion in the rear both times?

I’ve already said why I brought it up.

Again, you have something you want to say. Say it.

I think that will significantly help

I think it should help some.. From what I know about how stuff works it's ring gear deflection that is causing the damage.
If you look at how the teeth on my ring gear broke that seems to prove it.

This was the setup pattern from the last set that broke & I only had maybe 2K miles if that on it. But I only broke the pinion teeth too.

Scroll back a couple or so pages and start reading

I read it. You never explained why you keep bringing up Rory's opinion of 5.38s in multiple threads.

If you don't agree with Rory's opinion, then why do you repeatedly post his opinion?

If you do agree with Rory's opinion, then why do you plan to install 5.38s in your big boy rig?

I shall end my participation with a message in your native language...

You haven’t shown that I’ve brought it up anywhere other than here. Feel free to back up your claim.
