Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

What did you do to your TJ today?

Rust Never Sleeps. Ever.

Taking this restoration project all the way...

Barn find of the year. NOS in box Mopar Rubi fender flares.

Ah, nice, BUT they are MOPAR, which means they will most certainly fade. Spray them with Eastwood 'Plastic Resurfacer' before installing because they are a pain in the ass to "un-fade" once installed, and an even bigger pain to remove/install.

All plastic fades in the sun if left untreated. MOPAR has nothing to do with it.

DANG! That's a good idea. I didn't want to glue stuff up there, but using velcro on that sounds like a winner.

Are those just reflective windows shades, or did you find specifically insulative material? Something like this?

Temp here gets well over 100F on sunny days and my roof is black.

Yeah that's basically what I used on the base layer. I found this worked well so far and had a very strong adhesive side. Pieced it together with some aluminum foil tape.

I've read things about others having issues with glue coming undone in the heat over time, so before adhering it to the top, I cleaned the surface with simple green and water (didn't want to use acetone) then scuffed up real good with 100 grit sandpaper. Lol to really send it home I put down a layer of Gorilla spray adhesive before slapping on the insulation pieces. Once you commit there is absolutely zero reposition allowance. Also used a small roller to press it all down.

Getting the insulation over the speaker mounts was a real pain but managed ok by propping up the top with a couple 2x4s which seemed to give me just enough room for a hand to guide without missing my contact spots.

Here's the Liner I found on Amazon. Quality seems ok, not amazing but not terrible. It has a microfiber/suede feel to it.

My top is dark as well and lately with this heat wave in AZ it's been literally an oven inside the cab. The TJ is parked outside all day so I'm hoping this can help somewhat. Haha we'll see how it goes long-term.

After installing lower brackets under the driver's seat I needed to find a good place to mount the fire extinguisher since it no longer fit in front of the seat.
Barctact has a new mount that looked like a good design, and was reasonably priced so I gave it a try. Very simple design, super easy to remove the extinguisher by just pulling on the red tabs and it will hold anything from the 2.5 to the 5lb size.

This spot is always kind of a dead spot when packing the Jeep because of the tailgate connector, and it is very easy to get to even with the soft top on.
I like it.

1 what’s the storage box behind the seatbelt & between the rear of the tub?
2 can you get easy access with the top down?

I’ve been using this one from Baract but would to get it off the toolbar https://www.bartact.com/products/fi...-holds-optional-2-5-5-lb-extinguisher-bartact

That box is a 3D printer storage box I use for small stuff. I don't get into it very often, but I would need to remove the fire extinguisher to get to it with the top on. Without the top, I can just remove the lid.

I had that mount, but I really hated having it on the roll bar, and with the top on, it was really hard to get to.

The state of West Virginia thought my exhaust was too loud so I cut out the old and put in a new muffler with a turndown in front of the axle. What a pain in the ass to have to drop the skid to get at the exhaust but I knocked it out in 3-4 hours.

I've been trying to find a twinstick shifter boot for my Atlas t case. All I can find is the normal boot with the shifters side x side but in the tj they formed the shifters inline front to rear so they fit the console without modification. But they don't offer a boot with a front/rear configuration. So I made my own. Bought a normal twin stick boot. Cut the accordion part off the base. Cut some bicycle inner tube into flat pieces to fill the void left by removal of the accordion part. Reinstalled the accordion part rotated 90* from original position. Used vulcanizing cement to bind everything together.

Not worried about looks. Won't be visible.

More welding practice before I tackle the track bar bracket and spring perches on the TJ.

Per advice I received here, and from other sources, here was today's points of emphasis.

1. Working on letting the puddle form, not being in a rush to take off down the line.

2. Working on pulling the puddle, and not outrunning it.

Made a massive difference.

Some still ugly, some surprisingly decent looking. Work in progress, this was practice #3.

Oh, and probably going tomorrow to look at an '05 Rubicon to work on. Based upon the fender rust, I'm not expecting much from the frame. Doesn't hurt to look, the price is right.

On the east coast you can find new vehicles on the lot with this much surface rust hiding underneath.

Right?.. It's just flash rust from the morning dew when the top's down... in So. Cal! One would think with a "rugged" vehicle with a hose-down tub might be a little more rust resistant. But noooooooo.

2006 TJ?.. You're doomed.

Please don't drink and shop; a lot of us are recovering accessorizers. There should be a help-line.

LOL story of my ADHD life — open Amazon for zip ties, wake up three days later with half a lift kit, new fridge, and six recovery straps I “might need.” Someone please take my debit card away.
