Headlight Suggestions

I’ve read a couple other threads about headlight suggestions but nothing quite exactly what I’m looking for.

I just got my 2006 TJ and my headlights are abysmal. I’ve had cherokees and grand Cherokees in the past that had way better stock lights but these are really sad.

I’m open to a new wireing harness but I’d like to know what options are out there with and without one.

My primary concerns to narrow it down:

LOW beams I don’t want to blind folks. I don’t want to be that douche coming over the hill with the surface of the sun in your eyes.
BUT im in rural Canada so im much more likely to run into a moose than an oncoming car at night.
I’m more concerned with distance and width (to see animals coming from the side of the road) with my high beams than I am overall brightness per se.

I would love to know what folks like for plug in bulbs that might act like this or full on setups with harnesses and whatnot.

Thanks!!

I hate the assholes with their 100 watt bulbs blinding everyone. I put in Hella’s H4 buckets and my old eye really see an improvement over stock. I also like that they have glass lenses. Only took minutes for the change over.

Same here, nothing like glass. Put LEDs in mine. Works fine, lasts a long time. Fully guaranteed, its all you'll ever need. Won't rust, bust, encrust, collect dust, shit, stink, or bubble over - as long as you paint it green.

The kits with a harness are the way to go. It takes the electrical load off the aging components inside the cab. I'm happy with the Toyota h4 kit and I haven't even tried brighter bulbs yet.

Do you have fog lights? Have you considered putting driving lights on the bumper aimed outwards to give you coverage off to the sides? They could be easily rigged to have their harness triggered by your high beams

I'm now running a Frankenstein of Hella and Toyota (Koito).

I replaced the OEM headlights and fogs both with Hella lights back in 2020. I went with DOT H4 headlights and yellow driving/fog lights. All running their stock bulbs and they've been great.

Last weekend I installed the Toyota harness to power the Hella headlights. Easy installation. I believe the new harness keeps excess power out of the multi-function switch and having just replaced my switch in the last year wanted to keep it as good as possible.

My $16 deal on the Toyota (Koito) kit ended up being more like $40 once shipping was added. Otherwise, no issues.

I got the Hella E-Codes and put in Philips Xtreme Vision Pro150 bulbs. Pretty commonly recommended halogen setup here. I’m happy with them but they do have a design flaw, when the low beams are set correctly the highs aim too high and when the highs are aimed correctly the lows aim too low.
If I could do it again I’d probably go with the Koitos (still might at some point).

What I’m also planning on doing is putting on A-pillar LED pods for when I’m driving the backroads.

Mine had horrible HIDs when i got it. I put in the Hella H4 and was satisfied. Good halogen light, not blinding for others, low-cost. That was about 4 years ago and still fine.

You might want to add LED “driving” lights on the bumper; it’s easy if your jeep was wired for fog lights and you can aim them high for the rural areas but keep them off around civilization.

Here in Canada, one of the best options is Grotes LED lights. They look like normal OEM type of headlight but they are LED. Superb quality Canadian made. Not as cheap as the chinesium stuff but cheaper than the premium brands lights.

I guess they are made in China as well. I know the company is in Canada. I thought they were made here too, guess not.

They are not a Chinese company but may have some things manufactured in China. As long as they have oversight in quality control I don't see it as a problem.

Yeah I’m probably going to end up getting a harness kind. I don’t have fog lights but I’m planning to get some bumper lights like that for side coverage. The more I drive it the more I think I need them.

I was actually just wondering what the reason for the yellow lights was and if I should get some yellow ones in addition to the wide angle bumper lights
