Easiest fan clutch removal ever

do i need to remove the fan shroud to get the fan/clutch out? doing this today at work

Its more trouble to remove the shroud than it is to get the fan assy out without removal. Since the shroud is easy to remove, that means getting the fan assy out is even easier.

was easy peasy. perks of working for mercedes...the techs have every tool i could possibly need LOL. took all of 3 min to get off and put back on. air hammers make things so much easier LOL.

ok so i did the fan clutch, now in total ive replaced the rad, thermostat, rad cap, water pump and clutch for the fan and my temp sits to the right of the middle of the dial (just to the right of 100) when i sat idling for 5-10 min with ac on the temps rose quickly. im thinking air bubble?

Buy a radiator funnel kit. Helps with air issues. I put mine on and rev it up a little and watch it burp.

I just installed a ford explorer fan and heavy duty clutch. I can tell you that the clutch removal trick did not work for me at all. I had to rent a tool from the local parts store.

On the other hand the upgraded fan DID cool my AC down and keep my temp gauge from going over 210 even at idle and while on the hwy. I am more than pleased with the fan upgrade.

Whats the difference between the explorer unit and the factory one? i just did the fan clutch and all my issues went away.

This is the fan I used.
Dorman 620-155 Engine Cooling Fan Blade

Hayden Automotive 2794 Premium Fan Clutch

A bolted right on without any problems.

Thanks, so it the fan 15 or16"? Amazon only gives the package dimensions.

Don't you just LOVE that crap? I see it more often than I should (which would be NEVER).

A lot of times when I'm shopping for something and there is a variety of different ones I'll skip over the ones that don't include product dimensions. There are quite a few products where you need to know that.

Same here. I've purchased 3 lens cases for my camera lenses over the last couple of weeks off eBay. The number of listings for these things that do NOT have any dimensions whatsoever is staggering - or they'll have the exterior dimensions which I guess beats a poke in the eye with a mascara brush, but doesn't answer whether or not my lens will fit inside or not.

I use this from harbor freight. Same principle, but actually made to do the job right.

I loosened the fan clutch minutes ago with one smack of the wrench with a big hammer.
