I could certainly get a direct answer from them at leastBut yeah I guess I dont fit into the old school elietest club here. Have a great life young man. Adios
oof I'm guessing somebody didn't read the full thread
I am sorry to hear about your health situation. I hope you are able to get some more quality time with your children. The time you spend with them will be what they really remember. Godspeed Good Sir…
I figured I would respond on a human level, considering his dire situation.
A lot of responses on here, are as they usually go. Thankfully a man with understanding as to the build type and terrain the OP is asking about responded properly, Blackjack.
Stay classy WTJF…
You are doing a whole lot of projecting. Blackjack's responses are entirely consistent with mine. The significant difference is that Blackjack entered into this after angry Alaska guy's incoherent series of questions got sorted out.
Angry Alaska guy is upset because he is incapable of recognizing the confusion he created, which required that he be corraled so that something useful could come off this. The most offensive aspect of this is him using his health as justification for his vitriolic obstinance to actually learning something.
Not everyone can be the smartest person in the room. Some need things explained at a very basic level. We don’t know what we don’t know. The guy asked a specific question and Blackjack answered him in kind. Blackjack knew the guy is going for a set up in a very specific terrain. He explained things in a way that made sense for the guys intended purpose. Blackjack utilizes a bit of couth. Not every TJ gets built for rocks in California and Colorado…
Tact, and even empathy, goes a long way. That’s all.
Prayers @ALASKANMADMAN. Enjoy the time with your family.
I don't have any technical input, but I hope you get the Jeep how you want it.
Thanks man
So i am going to give you the answer you want because most likely a large number of folks up here are telling you to go with a long arm. Since it is common to build a TJ up here with more than four inches of lift you will have to do something about the piss poor control arm geometry with the stock arms. The standard approach up here is to use a bolt on long arm as it is the lazy way out. Luckily since we wheel in a tractionless environment the bad geometry of the bolt on long arm is less likely to manifest itself. The correct way is to build a custom suspension with longer arms but not as long as the bolt on kits to maximize link separation at the frame.
Thanks man
Since you have a jeep lifted higher than usual and want information about making it a better ride, you will find a lot of conflicting opinions. I would suggest reaching out directly to folks in your terrain area and asking them for information about kit that works. Many on here will try and steer you in one direction and that is usually that long arms have no purpose.
Just for shits and giggles, here's a photo of long arms being used effectively in a manner that most folks on this forum would scoff at. Jeepspeed!
I've had a discussion with some on here before that said that length of arms aren't a factor in the photo below and that this same build can be achieved with shorter arms and correct shock valving. To that, i say good luck.
