Yet another misfire

For anyone who was following this thread or lands on it with similar issues, a little followup.

Mopar crank position sensor is an absolute must on these Jeeps! I went through 4 different non-Mopar sensors, thinking that possibly some of them might not work, but no way NONE of them would work; I was so wrong. I passed on the Mopar sensor for two reasons, one being what I just mentioned and the other is availability. I didn't want to wait for the back ordered part was available. Wait for the darn part.

I decided to look again and found a Mopar CKP, bought it and, like magic, my troubles are done. If you need to replace the crankshaft position sensor, pay the price and wait for it to be available if it's not in stock. Don't waste your time or money on store brand or otherwise, it probably wont fix your issue.

Here's a picture of my Jeep with new shoes now that she's fun again.

Way to stay in there and get it done. FYI, for others that find this thread: in the Resources sub, there is a thread specifically recommending OE Mopar sensors:

Thanks for adding that thread. I've been keen to that recommendation pretty much all through this, I just couldn't bring myself to believe that nothing but Mopar would work correctly. Thats what I get for thinking!

I previously had a misfire issue after replacing the crank position sensor in my 2001 auto as well. The problem was Mopar sensors were not available anywhere at the time. I actually had 2 orders cancelled (moparpartsgiant and rocketauto). However, based on this post I just did another search and ordered one off ebay. The NTK that I installed worked fine for the most part but always misfired above 3100 rpm on the nose so I am anxious to give this one a try.

Glad you are up and running. 🙂 I like the unique look of your wheels.

I keep a spare Mopar CKP just in case. In case it's helpful, my Napa Echlin CPS has been excellent for me for over a year (I keep my OEM CPS as my spare).

Everything back running late last night.

AX15 was out and run to Bend 2 hours away because it wasn't shifting into gear. Shop banged it into gear and said that was normal with brand new synchros and it would take 500 miles to wear in.

Engine chain seems perfect but it seems we have developed a little vibration...but that might be something else I touched.

Water neck solution was no gasket, red RTV...finger tight bolts down to less that 1/8", wait 13 hours for some what of a cure, then torque to spec. One of the heater hoses needed trimmed too.

Test drive so far...can't get into 1st or 4th...and I think I might have an accident shifting.

Going to make some laps around the lake before we leave tonight for our off-road too Montana trip (from Fall Creek OR)

Thanks!
Mac

Thanks, I love these wheels! Only wish I could find a fifth to ride on the back. I'm just rocking a steely for the spare currently.

BTW, ISO 15" American Outlaw Ranger 5x4.5 lug pattern, if anyone looking to sell one happens to come across this post ;)

Among other Napa Echlin sensors, I'm also running their CPS. Only bugger has been that CKP.

Do you have better luck shifting into 1st after cycling reverse beforehand?

Sorry to hear of these issues I hope things improve for you.
