Work from home LJ

this showed up today. Figured I need a case or I’m going to lose some of these very expensive parts.

That kit looks different from the one you previously posted. Do you have the scale too?

I'm curious about what you'll see for tongue weight. I had to weigh mine on a bathroom scale with a lever.

yeah the scale is just on the other side. Looks like it fits both ways in the case (this is the same kit, just now i have a case for it)

I’ve had a leak at my transfer case output shaft for a few weeks. It’s been on the to do list and I finally tackled this morning.

An interesting finding. Amazon lists a $5 seal that supposedly “works”. Except it doesn’t fit.

No matter what you try. Old seal, new seal and my 3 Amazon seals pictured below. I finally found a part number that worked (from this forum) and now Jeep is dry and put back together!

I typically grab a few backup parts for my parts bin when things are cheap. So I have a backup now alongside some spare u joints and drive shaft bolts. Saves the few day wait and Amazon roulette if parts will actually work

Looking for a few recommendations while we have downtime before wheeling

- Axle shafts - Dana 30 27 spline. I am leaning towards something like this https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-159906-dana-30-chromoly-axle-shaft-kit.html . There are also these with the bigger joints. Ive read through some threads on here and it seems mixed on if bigger joint is a good idea or not. I would prefer to break an axle shaft over ring and pinion https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-23994673-dana-30-chromoly-axle-shaft-kit-1350-joint.html.

I ordered the 27 spline chromolys....will get them installed this weekend

- Air system - I need a way to air up and down. What should I do here? I intend on 6-12 trips a year. I am fine to pay up for something nice or can use something cheaper since im not doing every weekend. I just dont know enough to know what to look for. I have no intention of using air tools so I think this means almost all would fit my needs.

- winch - I probably should have one of these

I used an 88p for a while. It works well for the price and was noticeably faster than my friends' 40$ "amazon special" compressor. It fit in an ammo can nicely. Did get old taking it out everytime I wheeled though.

I have a 450p installed on the ABS tray now. It is a lot more convenient with a regulator, but was a lot more work to install and more expensive, even though I got a good deal used

I've had really good luck with my Viair portable unit. They rebuilt it for me for free under warranty at one point. Still going strong after 15 years.

I’m leaning towards this given how little I’ll use it. Thanks for the info.

Keep in mind that those ECG shafts with the larger joints are also 30-spline.

I also ran across these on sale. I don't have any experience with them personally, just seemed like a pretty decent deal.

Ah. You’re right. The smaller ones can be optioned with 27/30 spline. Assumed the 1350s could as well.

I will probably stick with east coast over Amazon. I’m at probably 50% hit rate on Amazon parts being broken/used/fake and I like to support the few local options still available.

trust east coast to make it right with any warranty problems over Amazon

East Coast has always been good to me. D

Say again; hard to beat a used Warn winch.
Be patient one will come along at a good price. Have cash and ready to go.

Every time someone mentions ECG, I have to mention West Coast Differentials. When I bought my locker and other things for my super 35, WCD was significantly cheaper shipping the same parts across country than ECG would have been if I drove 2hr to them and picked them up in person.

I installed a home link mirror while living at my old house. Yesterday’s project was setting it up on my new house. (Yes…..it took 6 months to hold some buttons).

I havent figured out how to upload a video here, but the mirror power is only on when the key is in the jeep. So makes it really nice I can leave jeep outside of garage and not worry about anyone helping themselves to my garage.
