Work from home LJ

Chromolys showed up. Tonight’s project will be putting the Jeep back together with the new axle shafts.

U joints in the stock shafts were shot. I’ll put new joints in those and keep handy as spares

Jeep is back together and got through 25ish miles driving around today. Finally re-wired my genright backup lights mounted in the rear bumper. Overkill with the black magic brake tail lights but more light never hurts. Can also see the relocated license plate and light for that. Believe that’s genright too….but it’s been awhile

I never park on this side of garage but my wife is out of town. So I did. The jeep is so tall the red disconnect rope for my garage door got stuck in the jeep door. Made for a good “oh shit” moment when the garage door wouldn’t close

Pretty boring update since last week. Both my lockers are finally wired up. Left my tool bag at my parents house and today was my only day to crank on the jeep. Made for some interesting work without the normal plethora of sockets/wrenches/crimpers/etc.

Parts bin is now empty. I moved with a few boxes of stuff to be installed. 6 months later and I finally knocked it all out.

Another 25 miles down. Jeep doing great. Still dripping some from TC and SYE even with a new seal installed. Seems to only happen after getting warm.

Ultimately I’m not that worried about it. I’ll keep an eye on and top off fluid if I have to. If it continues long enough I’ll tear apart and redo the tc seal.

I can’t remember, which SYE do you have?

My Advance Adapter SYE seeps a small amount between the housing and metal ring on the seal. The seal was pre installed f I remember correctly. It’s not much though. I bought a new seal and figure if I ever need to get in there again I’ll put some sealant around it before installing the seal.

Same situation. I’ve replaced it once and that didn’t fix. It’s leaking a bit around the bottom of the case too. Should fix it but am being lazy with how much of a PITA it is. Will hold off until I have a reason to pull the skid again

I got lucky and haven’t had any leaks between the case halves or between the case and SYE, just the seal. I kind wish I had knocked it out, put a layer of black RTV on the lip and reinstalled. It hasn’t leaked enough for the case to ever be low though, just annoying.

Yep. Same here. Mine drips and will leak on the ground / on the skid plate. But has never been low. I’ll feel better in after a few more hundred miles

If it makes you feel any better, mine has been like that for 2 years next month. 😄

In todays "just because you can, doesnt mean you should".

I have the morryde tailgate reinforcement kit most of us have. Originally installed 2 years ago at least. I installed the snubbers and they were way short. At least 4" all the way around. Seemed odd but I had bigger problems at the time with 2 regears, suspension half way done and no radio.

I decided it was time to tackle this problem today. Jeep is driving and the tailgate has rattled since the day I put it on. 90 min later I had some PVC snubber mockups cut and mounted up. And got to thinking......why does no one else have this problem? I dug through this forum and people were cutting a snubber or hockey puck down to size. Not creating 4"+ supports.

So I got to thinking and looking. I have owned this jeep for 3.5 years at this point. I had no idea there was a wheel adapter mounted on the rear tire setup on my jeep.

Now that i have my head out of my a** I realize this should have been obvious. I bought the jeep with JL rims on it. I gave the adapters to a forum member shortly after......

The wheel adapter was the problem. Its pushing the tire 4"+ out from the tailgate and was why I needed all this PVC bs. Took it off and the morryde snubbers are going to work just fine.....

Nice! Glad you figured that mystery out, and I bet your tailgate is too. I am definitely guilty of starting to "fix" something before stepping back and looking at the big picture like that. Sometimes it happens haha

Finally took Jeep on highway. 45 miles. Jeep did awesome. First time it’s been on highway (not on a trailer) in more than 2 years

Had a very rude local shop owner tell me 5.13s would be unusable on the highway with my auto 2 yrs ago when I seriously started build

Sir you were wrong. It’s great

Not to be a critic but at these nyloc nuts? They look like they could be. I don't see any threads protruding which means they likely aren't engaged. SAE standard was 2-3 threads showing for any fastener - but it's been a minute since I last reviewed it.

Just sharing if they are nylocs so the bolts don't vibe and cause a tire loss if they aren't properly engaged.

Luckily that assembly is no longer on the jeep. That adapter thing was causing my issue with the snubber spacing and was removed!
