Winch covers?

Weekend project.
Kydex forming

It is easy peasy. Don't over think it. Don't burn your hands, use gloves.

Heat, push it over the winch. Make it a little tight where it can grab the winch cross bolts/ bars. When it cools... snap on, snap off.

If it's not right... reheat, rebend, maybe trim a little.

You've got this.

Nothing stolen, a free gift to all.

V1 with some 15lb Velcro to secure the corners. Still need to solve for the thimble

It's coming along.

I have been able to pinch the Kydex behind something to secure it. For snap on and off. To avoid velcro or any other fasteners and to allow the ability to flex it and snap it on or off. In my cases the cross bars over the spool. But my control box is mounted to the side on my winches, not over the spool like your yours appears to be. (See edit below).

On mine, I put a 'tongue' to slip into the upper fairlead (on right in this pic), then it snaps on the back over the cross bars. (On left in the same pic).

Your situation is different with an over-spool control box. You might need a bigger sheet of Kydex, and cover the thimble as well. Maybe wrap the larger sheet under the front bumper. ? IDK

As for the thimble or hook or what have you, I suppose that you could build a 'holster' for it if you don't want to get a bigger sheet of Kydex.

Good job.

I am looking forward to your final result with pics.

Edit: I have a VR12S on my F250 which has the over-spool control box. I haven't considered covering it because the control box covers 90% of the spool.

There is another thimble type that I have, that covers the line within it. Factor 55 flat link I think it is.

Part 2.

Built a lip for under the raised winch plate, the went up and over the thimble where it sits in a pocket.

with no exposed cross bar there is nothing to hook onto.

It’s pretty ugly, debatable if less ugly than a shapeless winch bag, but it won’t trap the moisture underneath it.

This is gross

There’s an M8000 under that cover. When not wheeling, it is tucked in the hangar out of the sunlight altogether. I go to all lengths to keep the winch rope in the dark to include trying to make it over obstacles without pulling rope, but when I have pulled rope, I washed the rope and re spooled it under light tension.
