Where are my wheel axle u joints?

I was checking for play on all my u joints today. Where the hell are my wheel axle u joints? I’m so confused. There’s a rubber boot instead? Did the previous owner put in an aftermarket shaft or something?

Previous owner installed a CV axle shaft instead.

There appears to be a crack in the CV joint boot (2nd rib going left to right) which may be where the oily dampness is coming from.

If so…, must be from a ‘99-04 WJ; they had CV joints.
