I would think the strength would be okay, but I don’t know of enough people running that ratio in a Dana 44 to really know of any real world feedback.

@Wildman might be able to get some feedback from him about 5.89s and 37s ?

Different engine. My expirences without and now with a supercharger are not the same. All I can say is that the 42rle is less annoying with however more horsepower mine has and I still wish the gearing was deeper.
I was referring to wildman being in contact with pnwlj and possibly getting feedback from our guinea pig.
I'm not sure if you mean you wouldn't trust 5.89s with more than stock power or mean something else?
I do agree that engines with more torque are more forgiving in less than ideal situations for lower output engines
People in the know and who I trust were a unwilling to take the risk with 5.89, 42rle, 35s, 4.0L despite having every opportunity to try it.
You mentioned engines. I'm not sure what your point was?
I wouldn't run 5.89s so I have no skin in the game. I just wonder if pnwlj has blown out those diffs yet. I remember Blaine saying he wouldn't use them.

For 33s and the 42rle, gear as low as you can go.
Ok, good. I was always planning my build around going to 35s but now I'm thinking about just staying at 33s and was doubting whether 5.38 was still the right ratio.
The 42rle pushing 5.38s is not deep enough for 35s. Even with a supercharger.![]()
But it's the deepest I can do in my Rubicon axles.
Correct, with one expensive and untested exception.
I know, I was just saying it doesn't matter if it isn't deep enough, it's the best I can do without new axles.
I would argue that a 42rle and a 32" tire should have 5.38s.
42rle/31”/5.38=3018rpm @ 75mph
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help. That'll give me more to think on. That totally makes sense too because if the 05 TJ had the same gear ratios for the 4-cylinder and the V6 then it seems like one of them is going to be either under or over geared, and it would make sense it would likely be the former with the 4-cylinder.
Cheers!
Just buy a Speedo Healer and don't worry about gears.Speedo-gear.
