What did you do to your TJ today?

He told me to never show this but this was the first attempt with a 80% matchView attachment 621180
The door is correct on the left…………

As a guy who used to shoot paint and beat panels for a living...😬...but that's no slag on your painter. Paint matches can be a real bitch, and when you understand how the manufacturer deals with it, the shitshow starts to make a bit more sense.

While I can't recall specific colors offhand (other than Ford's Vermilion Red from the late 80's), I do remember dealing with a few jobs where matching seemed impossible. At 80%, you couldn't even pull that off with a blend.

Edit: Looking at the full side shot of yours again, I'm not so sure he could have done much better. I wouldn't have thought he had any trouble finding a formula or matching it based on the results. And I still hate you for having the color. Sorry. :D

My 2004 LJ was Deep Beryl Green. Unfortunately, the acid rain in SoTX was disolving the paint. I took it to three dealers and several paint shops. They said they could try to polish the spots out, but that they would just come back. Looked great from 20' away, but looked bad up close. My 2006 is red and never had any paint issues.

Replaced some old upstream O2 sensors and painted side rails. Did the tubes with Rustoleum bed liner - I like the textured look and the inserts with SEM Trim Black.

Just got back from a test drive and a more thorough look. Old girl is pretty sluggish, but i know it's not a racecar. I scoped the frame. Unfortunately there is some thick delamination going on about mid frame and back. I pulled out a piece almost 1/16 thick. I think that's a no-go for me. I just don't know how much is too much. It's not eaten through, but i don't know how much longer it would have, and I don't have time for a frame restoration right now. Almost joined the club. maybe next time.

Good call. Start with a rust-free Jeep.

I wish i could but I’ve gotten attached to those wheels🤪
Can't say I blame you.

I'm back! After almost eight months my LJR is out of storage in beautiful Marietta. Drove it home to Canton after installing a new battery. Happy to report the CEL came on about halfway home, so something else to work on. We are very happy with our new house.

Went out driving around the local area today. Must have seen 50 Jeeps! Didn't get many waves, but most the Jeeps were later than TJ and driven by YLs on their way to grocery, soccer, or tennis.
My daily drive I see dozens upon dozens of JKs, JLs and whatever the Gladiator is..
If one of them has the top down I'm surprised.. most don't even have a window cracked. They are all buttoned up tight with the AC on. Sad. And forget the wave...

Funny, for some reason the first color my brain goes to when I think Jeep CJ/YJ/TJ is red.

As a kid, the old salt captain of the Stone Harbor Beach Patrol (the lifeguards of the shore I flocked to yearly) used to transfer guards and visit individual stations in an all red CJ with S.H.B.P. painted in large white block letters on down both sides of the hood. That guy with his red Jeep was cooler than my dad at that age. :D
I just love yellow. As of my wife's last count I have 21 yellow shirts. But, Agreed.. my mental picture of a classic Jeep is red.
For better or worse, this is now the first thing that comes tomorrow mind thanks to @TheBoogieman

It took me two years to find mine. It was worth it. 2006 TJ Unlimited Rubicon, Red, 34000 miles, no frame rust.
I'm in the NE.. looked for years for a clean TJ. It was brutal. What I ultimately bought (not red and not yellow) was born and raised in NY surprisingly. It was a two owner vehicle.. I'm #3. The first had it for about 55k of it's 56k miles and was a master mechanic at a high end Jeep/Dodge Dealership on eastern LI. That kind of gives you a bit of mental security. Yet, it still had rust in the frame and no drain holes. It's a long project for sure and you need to emotionally disconnected.

You are so right about LI. Lived in Blue Point for 5 yrs and watched my '78 CJ-7 rust away before my eyes. The very air is full of salt!

Replaced both turn signal bulb sockets. Fixed my issue where the turn signals worked but the actual light for the housing would not light up (corroded inside).

Next on my list is to troubleshoot the blend door actuator.

Your license plate seems blurry. I need a clearer pic to steal your identity.

They're just as easy to replace if we're talking about the same thing. I think the diaphragm is right behind the shift console.

Glad you are back at it. Good luck with the CEL chase. Sending you a wave from Marietta!
