Turn Signal Module Issues

My first submission- hopefully someone has had this problem. When driving, I used my turn signal- the arm felt sticky and then gave. The turn signal light on the dashboard is a stick "on" not blinking. After 4 mins or so, the signal warning starts beeping. However, the turn signals still worked. I figured it was my turn signal switch- easy enough replacement.

So now the turn signals dont work at all- but I do still get the dashboard signal light "on" . Any ideas? there is a little plastic lever on the inside of the turn signal switch could it be something with that? or is it the turn signal flasher module?

thanks
Jamie

Did you change out the multi switch ? Could be the relay, what year model is your Jeep ? I have a 06 and the relay is located on the multi switch under the top cover behind the steering wheel.

Thanks for the reply! I have not changed this out yet- I am searching online for the part. Any recommended brands? Also- there is a little plastic arm that comes out of the turn signal assembly and goes into the steering column- any chance it is something inside of that?

Very well could be, when I switched my turn signal lever to the up position it would stick. The turn signal would work intermittently. I ended getting one from Oreilys for ~ 80 bucks, it came with a lifetime warranty. I figured it is easy to change so I just went with it. No issues I have had it for about 6 months.

i have a 2002 X- about 150k on it. bought it from my brother who didn't drive it much. As I repair/upgrade different pieces I am finding all sorts of stuff someone cobbled. I will order a new relay and switch that out as soon as possible.

Sounds like a plan. If you change the switch out be careful with the connectors , they can be brittle. They have a red locking tab that slides out before you can disconnect.

Good call- i did take it apart to put the turn signal assembly on- one of the wiring harnesses was already broken (someone taped it on) and the red tab was missing from the other- how hard is it to replace these harnesses?

Thanks for all the info- unfortunately it did not fix the problem. I replaced the Turn signal switch assembly as well as the light module. Still get the right turn signal indicator on the dashboard (not the actual signal) that stays on (only when the headlights are on) which results in the signal warning "dinging" after a few minutes. Any other ideas? I have tried two different turn signal assemblies as well as two different Light Control Modules....

With some research, I would bet you can find the connector and just replace that. I’m guessing replacing the harness would be a major PITA.

Unfortunately, if someone has cobbled several things together, like you said, it could be a problem with what they have done. Best suggestion would be to start with the electrical schematics in the service manual and start tracking it down step by step. Not sure if you have found it yet, but the FSM is available in the TJ resources section, along with lots of other great information.

I am very curious to know what you find. Please be sure to keep us updated. I’m glad to help anyway that I can.

BTW, I haven’t had my multifunction switch off yet, but I am guessing the plastic piece you spoke of is the reset for the turn signals. I’ll check and let you know for sure.

Did you ever find an answer? I have the exact same problem. Left signal is stuck on even though the physical turn signal is not engaged. Light on dash blinks and actual turn signal blinks. Then the dinging happens for a minute or two. What is the dinging??

The dinging is the "Hey dumbass you left your turn signal on!" indicator. Your best bet is to simply replace the Multi Function Switch. It's an easy task.
