BLUF - Switched from Dana 35 to a Teraflex CRD60 Dana 60 and as best I can tell the Teraflex axle raises the shock mounts so the shocks that were recommended for my Rock Jock 4 inch lift now only have 2.5 inches of uptravel, trying to determine a solution. Is anybody running the CRD 60 and Currie springs and if so what shock are you running?
As I'm sure a few folks have experienced, I am currently in neck deep in the adventure that comes with venturing from light mods to having to deal with making parts from many sources work together.
For background, it is a 97 Sport with the 4.0 and 5 speed. In 2023 I pulled the trigger on the parts cannon from Rock Jock doing basically the entirety of their suspension and steering offerings with the exception of the rear anti-rock, including the Rancho RS9000XL shocks they sell and recommend and have been enjoying it on 33s since then.
Back in May it lunched the spider gears in the Dana 35 so figuring it was time for gear and lockers anyways, I decided not fix the 35 and shop for a whole new rear axle. I ended up with a Teraflex CRD60 semi-float and recently finished the install that admittedly got a little out of hand, doing a belly up (and requisite body lift/motor mount lift), clutch, rear main, NP241, 4.88s and ARBs. It will be on 33s for another few weeks until the 35s arrive.
I noticed driving home from the alignment shop it felt like it was hitting the bump stops over larger obstacles at speed, but a bit more violent than I've experienced when i've hit them before. Upon investigation there is only 2.5 inches of up travel and it seems it is bottoming out the shocks, my conundrum is how to correct. I was considering dropping down to the next shorter shock ( the shock recommended for 2.5 inches of lift) but it does lose nearly 1.5 inches of stroke - 7.25 vs 8.875, I admittedly don't know if that's actually a problem. The other option is move away from the Ranchos, to something with a shorter body but commiserate stroke. However, opinions are obviously like assholes on shocks so I don't dare ask for that recommendation.
