Nope

It's 7.5 on the top and bottom, plus a 16 inch wheel. They didn't do width back then.
So 7.5+7.5= 15
+16
31" tall tire

What do you do when you find an old foundation with a slope in the middle of nowhere?

Flex on it of course

and then this happened. It happened on a dirt road in 2wd. I'm guessing the axle shaft was already broken, but it just didn't know it yet. The locker pushed it over the edge. So new axle shaft on the way.

Haven't seen one of those old style axle shafts in a LONG TIME...

Now I'm working on the roll bar, pics to follow once I have something worth taking pics of.

As always we're waiting with anticipation...

Those 10 spline shafts are pretty rare now... Or they were the last time I'd looked for one.

Nah, these days its just a click away, I got mine from thejeepsterman.com
Its not NOS, but at least its something. I'll probably eventually find a nice 44 I can make work, but for now, this is fine.

I'm sure some of those same old flat fender guys won't like roll bar either but since you actually use this thing on real trails, it makes sense just like the disc brakes do.

I have to be a little honest... that vid of me going down Devils staircase... I kind of had a moment when I realized my life was literally in the hands of an amateur mechanic... I made those brake lines myself... some of them leaked at first... if one where to rupture.... I would have hit the bottom at 60mph. And died.

A little roll bar couldn't hurt. and, I've got a reddish beard. Me and the sun don't get along much. so I need some kinda shade.

I'm not sure when it was that I became OK with that but yep, I'm right there with you and so is my whole family at this point. So we better not screw up.

So many ways to die, eh? But some are more fun than others...

Finally got the roll bar finished. I've never built anything like this before and it was a lot more work than I thought it would be. I had a few requirements.
I had to retain the ability to fold the windshield down AND pivot the glass forward for vents.
and The bar/cage had to be able to have a sunshade

This is what I came up with. Although in the pics the windshield is down, when it is up, the bar/cage has to be close to the windshield, and follow the same lines. This required a notch for the glass venting thing. The front bar (A pillar) is upright and square. it would have looked better if it had tapered, but there was no way with my requirements.

The B pillar is not at 90 degrees, its flared out at the bottom and curves in towards the top, to add a little shape. There didn't need to be an S shape to clear the body, but it put the mounting plates in a better position and made it look a little more interesting.

And finally the C pillar. I went with a fast back design, but had to leave room for the toolbox doors to open so the bar doesn't go straight to the floor. instead it has a 60 degree bend. It actually reminds me of old school Humvees that had the fast back hard top.

The A pillar bolts to the floor, but through the hat channels, this is extremely strong.

The B pillar is just bolted to the top of the wheel well. The wheel wells on this jeeps are very strong (all 16guage steel) but I'll add some supports for it at a latter date.

The C pillar just bolts through the tub. Its for aesthetics only .

A decided to add a dash bar to the cage to stiffen it up a bit and give the passenger something to hold on to.

Then printed up a bracket for my coolant overflow tank.

PXL_20250930_142739565.jpg

Keeping with the concept I don't want anything mounted to the fenders, The overflow tank mounts next to the shock reservoir.

its a tight fit in there, but it works. I'm going to reprint the bracket tomorrow but 1/2 inch shorter so the overflow tank doesn't rub against the grill.

The canvas for the bikini top should be here this week.

So, Progress!
