The official idiot driver thread

Post your idiot driver and//or idiot driver's "techniques" here.

Mine for today: About a month ago, I was on my way to Belly Dance class, and went through a McDonald's drive thru. I was in the Jeep, and I had my little utility trailer on behind it - I take it out once a month or so to blow the accumulated leaves out of it, get the tires warmed up, etc, etc. Woman who had been sitting off the driver's side rear corner of the thing, suddenly decides she wants to inch up, and hit me. Broke the tail lite and a reflector.

Today, pretty much the same fucking thing. Driver who had been sitting behind me (at a red lite), decides to inch up and hit the trailer. No damage this time. I'm just sick and tired of these Florididiots hitting me - two serious collisions and four "taps" in the 8 years I've lived here.

In discussing this with today's idiot - I have come to the realization that PART of the problem is the fact that this little trailer is too low, and can't be seen by these gargantuan vehicles everybody drives today. They see the trailer and stop, but then I guess they forget its there... Another possible contributing factor MAY be that I'm in a standard transmission vehicle, I'm not sitting there with my foot on the brake, maybe they see no brake lite, see a "gap", forget the trailer, and inch up? I don't know, I've been "tapped" in both the cars too, where that wasn't an excuse.

In any event, I'm going to bolt a pair of 5 foot RED CB antennas onto the back corners of the damn trailer so people will hopefully see it!

Not seeing or forgetting it’s there would be my guess too.

Get the antennas that light up and tap into the brake light so they can see it even better.

Gotta point out the elephant on the dance floor.
The Mercedes got hit.
The Jeep got hit.
The Jeep trailer got hit.
@Zorba was the common denominator?
Just saying 🤣🥲😂

Man, that creeping thing in general annoys the crap out of me. The lights still red, just wait, how impatient are you?

I hate when people try and creep up within a couple inches of you. If I'm in a manual, I'll start to roll back when I see em doing it. They usually stop pretty quick.

One did it to me the other day when I was in the Humvee. I put it in neutral and rolled back far enough I could barely see the driver. I think he got the point, judging by his response lol

I might have done something like that before. I may keep one of those hitch mounted skid plate things in my hitch for such an occasion. Maybe I had a car get on my ass at a stop light a while back, and I let it roll back enough to make noticeable contact before driving off.

Wait until one of those trucks that are jacked up in the front gets behind you.

Lived in FL for almost 50 years and thought Floridians can’t drive, live in TN now and drive to surrounding states and realize PEOPLE don’t know how to drive. But you can cut off a Tesla in the left lane of a highway going below the speed limit and be confident the car will brake 🤣🤣🤣

Get boat trailer lights and bolt them on the sides

My recent concern is new drivers rely on the onboard tech and expect the other vehicle to automatically yield to their incompetence, and they’ll be unpleasantly surprised when they encounter an older vehicle with no auto nanny.

A lot of the gripes ive read are about "gatekeepers". People who decide what they are doing is best and try to force others into following them.(blocking lanes, not slowing down when pulling over, etc)

The other one I hate is "racers" who play off the others around them.usually in an emotional way.(riding bumpers, speeding up after getting passed, dangerous maneuvers to prove a point, etc)

I clean up too many bodies on the highway these days to try and justify the same things I hear from the people on scene who live.it has been very humbling.

Guys, your family needs you more than you need to prove a point out there! Get therapy, meditate, strangle a cat, follow Dexter's murder code or whatever it takes to get your inner little man complex figured out!

Making a left turn at a stop light, 2 left turn lanes turning into a road with 2 lanes. I was in the left lane, about mid-intersection granny beside me in the right lane turned sharp into the left lane, right in front of me. I guess she didn't realize what those white lines in the road were all about.

A lot of drivers don't even know that you are supposed to turn right into the right lane and left into the left lane, here they do the opposite. I'll make a left into the left lane then signal and move to the right lane which usually annoys those behind me who turned left into the right lane to try and get around me in a hurry, especially when I'm in a large vehicle! If they're too close I'll have to break the law and turn left into that right lane myself or I could be stuck in the left in a large vehicle as everyone blasts by me on the right.

That is exactly right, and how I always do it. With that said, I'm VERY cautious turning right when there's someone turning left for the above reason. People in Florida REALLY have problems with turns - the biggest problem is "Florida corner cutters". I've never seen anything like it, damn near EVERYBODY does it - it was the cause of the two major accidents I was in, as well as innumerable near misses.

As bad as Commiefornia drivers are, I didn't see it much there. But I've seen people of ALL ages doing it here. I'm always ready to brake, steer, and honk. I'll be turning left after a light change, and the guy behind me will often start turning before I do! Or if I'm in the right side of a 2 lane left, the guy on the left side cuts the corner so bad that it looks like he's going to T-bone me at the other end of the turn! Those arcs that are drawn in the intersection are there for a reason - they are the fastest way to make the turn because you don't have to brake to make a 45 at the end...

It's illegal to cross multiple lanes at once here without stopping in each lane and signalling. It just makes sense, especially when in an intersection or going 80mph on the freeway...
