Howdy everyone, I just installed a new 32rh transmission in my jeep and when I went to hook up the battery the engine tried turning over despite no key being in the ignition or anything . Does anyone have any ideas to what the issue could be ?

Just ran the multimeter and I have 0 volts to the small wire and 12v to the red wire, that’s both off and with the key turned on .

With key turned ON....
That would be normal not to have 12V to the small wire in the ON position.
Do you have 12V to the small wire when the ignition switch is in the START position ?

In the start position, with someone turning the key, still 0 volts.

Yes, battery connected and 12v to red and 0 volts to the small wire while in run

In the TJ Resources section of this Forum there is a downloadable PDF for the Factory Service Manual.
Section 8W-21 has the wiring schematics for the Starting circuit.

Use these schematics to further troubleshoot your problem.

I had a weird situation happen a while back. I have a manual Jeep, so keep that in mind, but the wife drove it to the store one day, got out and everything was normal, and when she got back in and started it every time she pushed the clutch the starter would engage. When she got back I was able to figure out that she had somehow pulled the key out in the "off" position, not in the "unlocked" position, so when she had reinserted the key I guess the ignition was clocked funny, and the Jeep was trying to start in the "run" position. Check your ignition switch and make sure it's rotated/clocked correctly.

On a side note, have any of you come across that situation? I'm assuming I'll be having ignition switch issues soon, but IDK for sure.
