Oregon Southern Oregon wheeling

I'd be down for meeting up with some Oregon folks, but southern Oregon is a bit of a trip for me. Ashland is like 5 hours each way.

I just checked and it's 3 hrs 7 minutes but that's Ashland proper.

If you're coming from Portland we're just off highway 58 past Lowell. If you wanted to come up Friday night we've got plenty of room.

Where exactly are we meeting at 10 am?

What trails/FS roads are we planning on playing on?

Anyone else in southern Oregon? @Woodrow will be in Ashland next Saturday (11/9) and we're planning on looking for snow up on Mt. Ashland. Anyone interested in coming along? @macleanflood ?

Oh man - if I leave now I could make it in time. The snow is very tempting… 🤔

Google is showing me 4h 30min to Mt Ashland. I am going to see if I can rent a trailer. I would hate to get stuck that far from home with a broken Jeep.

There is a Chevron just east of I-5 at exit 19. That may be a good spot to meet but if @srimes has an idea, I will defer to that. As far as route, the road upto Mt.Ashland is one possibility but again, @srimes may have better area knowledge.

I hope you can make it.

Didn't someone just set a 27 hour solo Cannonball Run time?

You really wouldn't need to leave until Thursday morning.

I've got a 18 foot dump trailer and it's recovered plenty of vehicles. If we need it I'm sure I can find someone to do me a favor and drive it down.

Wow! Sweet!

Tentative idea:
Starting at the Mt. Ashland Ski Area, head out NF-20
If we want to hit the summit (where I went last weekend) go up 300 and back
Continue to the Meridian Overlook, and on to Wagner Gap NF-22
And on to Wagner Creek Rd which will take us to Talent and I-5

If the going's too slow we can turn around instead of making the loop. Thing is, I really don't know if there will be much snow. It could be mostly gone by Saturday with the current forecast, and it looks like rain on Saturday so it could snow in the mountains. This path would give us an easy scenic drive if it's clear or an out-and-back if we're bashing through the deep stuff

My best guess at this time is there won't be a lot of snow left, just a few shaded drifts that we'll have to bash through. But we won't really know until we go. The forest roads out here go from an easy drive for a honda civic in the summer to more than a TJ on 35s can handle in the winter. It's all about the timing.

So let's also be on the lookout for a REAL snow run! GIve people a little time the plan and make the trip (from Tennessee! :ROFLMAO:) , with options for camping. Hell, there's a remote campground with our name (mostly) on it!

Excellent on Saturday!

I've got a lot of great snow wheeling around my area. Forest Service Road 6010 is awesome although it all burned this summer so it might be either closer or a tree fight.

And FS 19 the Aufderheide is a great snow run...long as you can stay on the road.

Up north more I hear their going to keep 46 out of Detroit open all winter but unplowed. Breitenbush area. Also promising.

I’m in Medford, Oregon. I should be able to make it out. Shoot me the details!

@gbirk haven’t seen you since our meetup at Browns Camp back in 2020!

If you or anyone else has rig issues we can take it back to my home and assess whatever it is.
