I have a HUGE trip coming up next summer and will driving the TJ across country for it. I always take my hardtop off for the summer but will need a full top for this trip, but don't want the weight of the full hard top due to the wheeling I'll be doing. (Rubicon, Fordyce and Barret Lake).

I'm looking at the Rampage Frameless to fill the bill but reviews seem to be mixed.

Looking for anyone in here that has real experience with one, especially for the highway and off road chops.

Thanks!

picture is from Amazon.

I have one on my LJ. The windows are a serious pain in the ass to get in, but once together it’s not bad. I run just the top without the windows 90% of the time. If you plan on taking the windows on and off a lot I think you’ll be frustrated with it. If you leave it in the same configuration for most of the time it isn’t too bad.

I think mine was very worth the money, I think it was only like 350$? I've had it a few years now. My zipper on my rear window ripped off but they warrantied it. I never put it back on though. The most annoying part going down the highway in mine is the zippers on the window uppers honestly.

I don't remember what it was like with a back window, probably better?

I run a Rampage on the LJ. The convenience of swapping between a safari top configuration and the "full coverage" configuration is a huge benefit - especially for a wheelin' rig. Getting the windows off is easy and quick, getting them back on is more of a challenge. Taking the top fully off and putting it back on is much more of a pain than the stock soft top.

I love the thing. I've had four or five over the 20+ years I've had the rig. And, I keep a full spare as I do occasionally damage them wheelin'. Look for the sail cloth version.

But it's loud on the road. Mine is tighter than most, because I built my cage specifically to fit the Rampage. But the nature of a frameless top is to flap just a bit - especially on the highway.

I had the Bestop version and I do remember the windows being a pain to get back in. Just the way they are. The other dislike is the amount of room you lose in the back. That slant really cuts out a lot. Sold mine and bought the full version. Bestop that is.

about the road trip, without going into a long story why, I drove my TJ from Denver to Maryland - 1,500 miles in 3 days. That was not fun. I mention this as I had to stop and get ear plugs because of the Rampage soft top flapping and popping. That was one miserable drive for a FOG.

My Rampage frameless didn't last two weeks before I returned it (Stitching was coming loose and I ripped it putting the windows back in). Maybe I just got one that was made in China. 🤔 I did love my Bestop Trektop NX though.

I special ordered mine "Tramp Stampless". It cost extra.

p.s. I put my own Tramp Stamp on the tailgate. My 4th wife had the same "markings" on her tailgate, but it wasn't ink. On to #5.... 🤫

I agree. The Rampage does it all.

Is it the best top made? Nope.

But if you like versatility, it is near perfect.

My ideal jeep day ends up far away , topless, sometimes needing shade and a warm dry ride on the way home is nice- the rampage is a great, affordable do all top.

An under appreciated (or at least advertised) feature is the built in flat storage for the side windows (and back? I can't recall). They lay flat, out of the way, and that keeps the transparent part much nicer than the bestop roll-up solution.

For sure. You forget you have them and they stay in good shape.

The first time I heard about that was a guy who worked at a Jeep specialty dealer that had had about 25 rigs… he said it was the favorite top he ever had because of that feature ….he had seen them all.

if you like a low volume, flexible system, at a reasonable price, this is the top for you.
