DIY Leather Steering Wheel Wrap

I've been wanting to upgrade my wheel for a while now. I originally was looking at some of the eBay inventory from the guy in Poland that does the newer model wheels but I have an older 2-spoke setup.

I ended up buying another 2-spoke wheel on eBay for about $50 that had damaged leather and then spent another $70 on a DIY kit from Stitchingcover.com. I chose black leather with dark gray stitching as that seemed to match as closely to the OEM colors as possible.

The kit they send you includes everything you need - instructions, thread, needle, and double sided tape. I didn't use the tape but the stitching itself is very straightforward. Entire wheel probably took me a little over an hour, I did it while watching Mad Men. I'd give the fitment of the leather a 9/10. The cut was a little off in the areas adjacent to the spokes, but with the cruise control switches installed you can't really even tell unless you're looking closely.

Would highly recommend this kit to anyone who isn't afraid of doing the stitching themselves, the website has a lot of configurations for thread color and material and is pretty reasonably priced. They shipped my materials out the same week I ordered them.

That looks great, much better than my $10 amazon diy wrap. Did you remove any of the deteriorating material, or did you just put the new one over top of the OEM wrap?

I honestly just cleaned up the original leather as much as possible and put it right over top. The kit calls for leaving the original leather in place and as long as the underlying padding from the OEM wheel is in place you can't tell once it's all stitched up.
