My wifes TJ is a 2000 with a full sound bar on the roll bar. She has a decent head unit, but the speakers are totally blown. My wife hss been awesome with this whole pandemic debacle. I want to do something for her; buy her some new speakers for her sound bar. She has a Kenwood head unit, and no amps or subs. So I am looking for something decent that can be run bu just the head unit that will fill the holes in the sound bar.

What should I buy?

Polk DB 522 speakers. Direct fit in the roll bar. Slight modification if you want to place in the dash, or you can go with direct fit DB 402 in dash. Order from crutchfield and you’ll get the wire adapters needed.

i don’t have a sub or amp and satisfied with the results of these speakers with an aftermarket head unit.

Early sound bars like is on her 2000 TJ will accept 6.5" speakers without modification, I would go with the Polk DB652 which is what I installed into my 97's sound bar. It has a high 92 dB Sensitivity rating which means it will sound great with her stock OE head unit. That high sensitivity rating simply means it doesn't take high power to drive it to a good loud sound level.

Any reason they (Jeep) went from a 1 piece to the 2 pod overhead speaker setup? Is 1 better than the other? I have the 2 pod setup (06). Will 1 give better sound? Should I consider switching to a full width speaker bar? There are a few styles on Amazon.

I highly doubt it will give better sound, speakers are the same size in the same location. I would first spend money on upgrading/relocating the tweeters to the a-pillar trim, get a 5.25" component with crossover.

Polk has a set, but a 3/4" tweeter.

1" tweeters

Per Amazon reviews
Customers say
Customers like the sturdiness and ease of installation of the speakers. For example, they say it's a very durable product and easy to hook up. That said, some complain about the performance, saying that it quit working after about a month. Opinions are mixed on sound quality.
