Hi all, have just installed a bestop replace-a-top on the weekend, the back and side windows are fairly wavy (will take some pictures when I get a chance). I’m wondering if because my frame is missing the two straps that connect the two bows if it’s not aligned right? And if so, how can I make sure I get the right length and positioning when I put new straps on?

Thanks

It sounds like you're on the right track with adjusting the fitment. Those straps play a crucial role in keeping the top taut and can certainly affect the overall alignment of the windows.

To address the wavy windows, here are a few steps you can take to ensure proper alignment:
  1. Check the Bow Alignment: Before adding new straps, make sure your bows are properly aligned. They should form a smooth arc from front to back. If they’re uneven, adjust them to achieve better alignment.
  2. Measure for Strap Length: If you’re missing the original straps, you’ll need to measure the distance between the bows to get the right length. You can also look for the specifications in the Bestop installation manual or reach out to Bestop customer service for guidance on the strap length.
  3. Positioning the Straps: Once you have the straps, attach them starting from the rear bow and work your way forward. Ensure they're tight, but not overly so, as that can cause additional tension on the fabric.
  4. Heat and Stretch: If you’re still experiencing waviness after installing the straps, you might try warming up the fabric with a heat gun or the sun for a short period to help it stretch into place. Be careful not to overheat it.
  5. Check for Tension: After everything is installed, check that the fabric is evenly pulled across the frame. Sometimes adjusting the tension at specific points can help eliminate wavy sections.
Feel free to share those pictures when you can!

thanks Chris - no one knows the standard strap length off the top of their head?

I don’t but if I’m around one soon I’ll be glad to measure- I’m currently letting someone drive my softtop rig

So an update on this - not the straps, but upon closer inspection I'm thinking it might be the header? I've attached a few pictures that show how it fits different on each side, could it be bent/warped? Is there a way to bend it back to shape? Any thoughts welcome
