Utah Soft Shackle Recovery Points

I am not printing anything. 3D printing is like setting up gears, I got enough garbage running around in my head that I have neither the inclination or time to deal with learning the rarely used skill sets for either. I pay gear guys and I'll pay a 3D guy if and when we get it figured out. Or, I may just get out my pocket knife and whittle it out.

Well I hope it materializes as I like to see good ideas

My "good" ideas may not be what most consider good. We have no need for a factory head unit that eats up a lot of real estate in a TJ. The 1.5 DIN area is also not large enough for what I want it to do. So, we did a radio delete panel and then added the items we wanted to it and now we are working on a lay-out and how to make it all fit so I don't have to modify the double DIN bezel. I will if I have to, but I'd rather not.

Once I get this finalized, then it will go to a 3D printer to get made into what we need. I can and will do it all myself if needed but I want the lettering for the Rubicrawler air shifter printed into the plate on a raised platform that mirrors the radio control on the left side of the Switch Pro panel.

I like it, something different.

8 switches for the Switch Pro, Blue tooth controller for a remote receiver, 2 USB ports for charging, 2 seat heater controls with 6 position switches, clock with temp and voltage, and the Rubicrawler mode indicator all in what is basically wasted space in a TJ is not a bad thing. Almost as cool as this, not quite, but almost.

I need to get the comparison pic for what MOST see out of their rearview mirror to get the full effect across.

This is with a smaller than 35" tire. A big portion of that white car will be hidden with a 35 is my guess.

Can you provide any dimensions...
Note: These are first-gen. I radiused the outside chamfer with a file and had them hard-anodized myself. However, I don't think any of the critical dimensions changed with the second-gen design.

Height at Front (tallest) = 1.9"

Height at Rear (shortest) = 3/4"

Width = 1-1/4"

Length = 4.2"

Edited: the shortest height was wrong in my original post - I hit the zero button on the caliper and didn't realize it.

Scott, Scott, Scott…. Mixing decimals and fractions? You are an Engineer!

😉

😀

Adding a post to highlight that the original post had a wrong height for the rear. Don't rely on the original post if you got an email alert - read the edited one.

Actually, that was done on purpose. As an engineer, I was trying to interpret the original designer's intent. Due to machining tolerances, I try to do that. The ones that are decimal didn't measure close to a fractional equivalent...

Well, you're certainly not an architect, otherwise you would have left a few dimensions out....and you would have cheated/rounded the ones you offered up... :sneaky:

Well, I am currently practicing as a civil, so if it weren't for my mechanical degree and experience, I probably would have! :sneaky:

Even the civil guys are far better than the "we just make pretty pictures, someone else makes it work" people... ;)

If you're a mechanical guy, you know dimensions are important. Some things matter. :)

Yeah, when I started hiring civils seventeen years ago, I was so appalled with their fundamental lack of understanding common dimensioning practices that I pulled out an old drafting textbook and put together a white paper on dimensioning that all new hires had to read. I didn't even attempt to explain GD&T concepts. I'm afraid their heads would have exploded...

They most definitely would have exploded....and someone's gonna have to clean that up! :ROFLMAO:

In all fairness, been many decades since I did any GD&T, I've likely forgotten more than I remember. Currently achieving my thousandaire status designing in wood.

Well if you are a civil engineer than I would have expected dem. such as 1" = 20'. 🤣

I still have a handful of these available. Not sure if I will be making more once they are gone. PM me to order a set.
