Making Recovery Points Soft Shackle-Friendly

Eyeing these soft shackle-friendly front recovery points sparked a few questions I would like to raise to the forum (and @sunnysideup_lj if he would be willing to share some input).

I am bringing this up because I would like to make the sharp-edged recovery tabs on my rear bumper soft-shackle friendly as well, but am unsure of a suitable method or proper fillet size.

I will mention that this has been brought up before, but didn’t quite have a good discussion or resolution IMO:

So, here are the questions I would like to pose:

1) What radius must recovery point hole fillets be to be considered soft-shackle friendly?

2) I suspect the fillets on the product listed above are made with a corner rounding end mill on CNC machinery. Would it be feasible to accomplish the same with a similar tool by hand or under a drill press (or by any other means more accessible than expensive machinery)?

There is a difference between friendly and ideal. Ideal is a very large full radius, friendly is just knock the sharp edges off with a die grinder, carbide burr and then get after that with a sanding drum to final it out to something tolerable. If you get anything approaching a 1/8" radius or more, you are being very friendly.

Additionally, if ideal was necessary the front outside edge would need the same radius since not all pulls are straight on.

Wouldn’t the factory tj front tow hooks be soft shackle friendly?or would they cut one?
