I replaced my RMS last month on the 4.0 and put on a new FelPro oil pan gasket at the same time. Of course the oil leak persists, so I’m trying again. My question is whether there is a practical way to remove the RTV residue from the gasket without damaging it.

I tried carb cleaner and brake cleaner without much effect.

I would prefer not to spend another $50 or whatever on another gasket, but neither would I like to waste hours picking off adhesive just to save $50.

$23 and shipping.

I feel your pain. Took me four laps to get my RMS to stop hemorrhaging. It's still oozing.

Yeah I’ve read some of your posts on that topic.

I’ll probably just get a new one. The new RMS & bearing cap with anaerobic has been curing for 3 days and i want to get the oilpan on tomorrow, so I’ll probably buy the gasket at a brick and mortar.
