Rear Upper Control Arm Brackets Sheared Off Frame

So it looks like this is pretty common, I am going to drop it off at the fab shop tomorrow. They are going weld on new aftermarket HD ones to replace them. I will follow up with pics when they are finished.

In case anybody is interested in the Arizona area, I am going to Letzroll in Mesa. They have always done solid work for me.

the metal is pretty soft. I used an air hammer with a chisel bit on all my old mounts when going to long arms and it made short work of them. I was surprised at how easy it sheared them off. Lot less grinding that way.

My rear upper mounts were both cracked when I bought my Jeep. It had some crappy upper arms that had what was basically leaf spring bushings. Zero flex in them. Seems like there are some other forces in play with your particular situation.

Update:

I got a call from Letzroll, they said that they were finished, but when the tech was driving it there was a vibration at 55. They told me my front driveline was bad, but it has a tom woods on it and it is so new that the sticker is still on it. So they said it was loose and they tightened it up, but I know I am missing a bolt on my skid plate because the frame nut is missing. They didn't mention that at all, and I cannot believe the front driveline was loose either.

I actually have a slight vibration, but I don't feel it till about 80 MPH and is is a weird harmonic vibration that was so slight my passengers don't notice it if I am going 80. So I don't know what to think. The vibration actually started after they did the diffs a few years ago, but it was so slight it didn't really drive me crazy and I have since replaced my front driveline and that didn't fix it.

So if it is actually vibrating like they said at 55, I have to think it is some adjustment somewhere on the rear control arms because it didn't vibrate before.

They want to pull the front driveline and drive it and see if it fixes it. I am pretty positive it wont, but I let them do it anyway. I hope this doesn't turn out disastrously, but the fact that they told me my front driveline was loose but didn't say anything about the missing skid plate bolt, because I know they would have had to dropped the skid plate to tighten the front driveline, makes me think that they just welded the brackets on and didn't really adjust anything correctly. I am betting I am going to have to go back over everything when I finally get my Jeep back.

Anyway that is where I am now, and I will let you know how this all turns out.

I am not sure I have any pull if when I get it back it actually does have a new vibration. I may need your help to make this right again.

I became quite skilled at removing my front ds without dropping the skid with an 8mm Gear Wrench, so don't jump to conclusions.

I'm still fixing issues from taking my Jeep to Hunter 4x4 in Sac.

yeah, but do you think they used a 8mm wrench in a shop with lifts? Especially when the 6 or 5 in my case skid plate bolts are right there in the open?

You are right though I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but the service writer didn't seem like he knew what he was talking about. Which scares me a bit. He seemed really shocked when I told him I had recently replaced my front driveline with a Tom woods. Like he was pretty sure that the front driveline was the issue, but it actually solved a pretty bad vibration already of when I put a huge wow in it at Moab.

Anyway I didn't have a vibration at 55 before I brought it in, and you are correct, I should give them the benefit of the doubt at least till I get it back. I am just nervous of what I am going to get back the way he was talking.

Sorry about what happened to yours. I should catch up and see what you are dealing with.

OK Final update:

@bobthetj03 was right I totally over-reacted to the phone call about the vibration. I guess maybe I should complain about the vibration, but I was fine I just figured that was the price you paid for having a 4 inch lift and aggressive tires. I barely notice it. I guess when the techs drove it they expected it to be smoother and said something, but they admitted that it vibrates the same whether the front driveline is on or off, so that isn't the issue, and honestly, It doesn't bother me enough to chase that rabbit.

So I was afraid that they caused a vibration when they fixed the broken brackets, but that isn't the case it drives like it did when I dropped it off.

The new brackets are awesome and the welds are just as amazing in my opinion. I would definitely go back and recommend Letzroll to anybody in Arizona.

I haven't doublechecked their adjustments, but I can see the visegrip marks where they adjusted them, so I am hoping they adjusted it right and not just to fit the holes, but either way it doesn't drive wonky or dog walk so I am pretty happy here are some updated pics!
