Recently got to thinking, why not build double adjustable controls with off the shelf components that do not require welding? I assume others have thought of this before and there is probably a good, or several good reasons, why everyone isn't doing this, but figured I would share my thinking here to discover why it is a bad idea.

My research shows that 3/4in Heim joints are more than strong enough for upper control arm configuration and should also be fine for lower control arms.

Below are example parts for rear upper control arms:

12in chromoly swedged tubes with RH + LH threads at 1 1/8in OD & 3/4in ID
LH & RH threaded 3/4in Heim joints kits
Hardware
  • Heim joint spacers and sleeves to fit the mounts and mounting bolts

So let's hear it: share reasons why this is a bad idea!

The idea is fine, but the parts chosen are not.

Those tubes are not 3/4" ID, they're about 1" ID, with 1/16" walls. Need much heavier tubes or rods.
I would not use Heim joints, I would use genuine Johnny joints instead. Yes, it will cost a lot more.

Heim's will not last long and have zero forgiveness. Those control arm tubes are not near heavy duty enough as said above.

I have full access to a twin spindle lathe and the needed tooling. It was still more cost effective for me to buy the Savvy kit than buy my own aluminum bar and bulk Johnny Joints.
