Interesting. What is the cost increase on that? Is an American made shoe the same as china made + tariffs?

I'm not privy to that data. But you don't invest in building a new factory unless you expect it to pay off. There must be some combination of:
a) it costs less to build it here,
b) they can charge more, or
c) they expect higher volume.

Chinese factories are struggling to get enough orders. A lot of production has shifted to other areas, like Vietnam and Indonesia. They may be doing this to keep the rest of the supply chain running.

Either way, it's investment, jobs and money here in the US. That's a win in my book. More of the supply chain will follow.

I'd be willing to pay a little more for shoes made here. The question is always how much. A lot of people say they'd like American made, but you almost never see it on their feet.

This is always the problem for me. It's a lot easier to justify a $250 pair of thorogoods, than it is a $200 pair of sneakers.

I want to compile a list of American manufacturers for apparel/shoes etc. anyone know where to start?

I'm willing to pay a bit more for American made as well - AS LONG AS:
1) The quality is there.
2) They're not ripping me off because its "American made".
3) It isn't "premium" or "high end" or some other bullshit when I'm not looking for it (which I'm usually not).

I agree , with boots I tried HH safety toe made in the USA , they started squeaking when you were walking . They were exchanged twice more , same thing .
I finally went with Ariat , no issue's at all and last for years and years . They make a great slip on comp. toe work boot in regular and insulated styles.
I tried , but it didn't work out for me .

What is HH safety toe? These are the ones that I have from Thorogood. No regrets, they keep my feet warm and protected.

They are now 6 months old and still clean up nice. I wear them everywhere, especially washing my jeep cause they keep my feet dry.

Double H safety boots .
