Interesting. What is the cost increase on that? Is an American made shoe the same as china made + tariffs?
I'm not privy to that data. But you don't invest in building a new factory unless you expect it to pay off. There must be some combination of:
a) it costs less to build it here,
b) they can charge more, or
c) they expect higher volume.
Chinese factories are struggling to get enough orders. A lot of production has shifted to other areas, like Vietnam and Indonesia. They may be doing this to keep the rest of the supply chain running.
Either way, it's investment, jobs and money here in the US. That's a win in my book. More of the supply chain will follow.
I'd be willing to pay a little more for shoes made here. The question is always how much. A lot of people say they'd like American made, but you almost never see it on their feet.
