Quitting smoking

Hope you have the will power to quit.
The good news is....just read an article that all the negative effects are actually reversed over time, surprising.

I personally have never smoked a single cigarette but have chewed tobacco for over 40yrs and have drank rather heavy over the last 3-4 yrs.....kids are grown.

I take my hat off to people who can quit smoking..(or anything for that matter) I heard once that it take 21 day to break a habit or to start a new one...don't give up mate @StG58
This may cheer you up.

For me its been roughly 2-1/2 years since my last cigarette. For me it was hard but ultimately I could not have nicotine in my system for a job (at a hospital) and really needed the job, so I used that logic as motivation.

I don't even think about it at this point but I do enjoy the smell of tobacco sometimes when it catches your nose just right.

Never been a smoker, myself, but love the smell of tobacco, and even cigarette smoke, in some cases. I applaud anyone who can kick the habit, or even makes a sincere attempt to do so. Hang in there, @StG58!

Quit in 2010, and picked up the beautiful Copenhagen habit instead. Chewed daily all day everyday except to eat and while I was at work. Started dating my current gf and she made a comment that chewing was the most disgusting habit imaginable. Well I quit chewing and she never knew I did. Chewing is still an ongoing battle for me. I work in healthcare and know all the risks associated with it. It’s one of the hardest habits to break IMO. Just thinking about it now makes me want a dip LOL. The struggle is real brother! Keep fighting the fight!

5 years ago I switched to E-cigarettes. I had a persistent dry cough for a couple of weeks, which went away in a few days of using an E-cig.
E-cigs have come a long way and can be inexpensive if you shop around and educate yourself on them.
A power supply last for about 6 months, cost $10
Juice, $10 a month.
Cartomizer ( holds juice and heating element) about $3.00 a month.
If you buy "as seen on TV" it will cost quite a bit more but still eliminate all the bad stuff in cigarettes.

Also it turns out I must have been allergic to something in cigarettes, way less congestion and sneezing.
Plus in a friendly bar I can puff away and nobody cares.

My wife who was almost a chain smoker switched about a year after I did, and she has remained relatively sane and in good spirits. Gum patches pills and will power were a complete disaster for her previous attempts.

Keep it up. It's hard... Took me two years, off and on to really quit. I used to smoke about a pack a day... Haven't had a cigarette now for five and a half years!

Have someone you can talk to when the mood hits is important. If you think you need to make a phone call...PM me. I can try and talk you down. For me, the hardest part was not smoking when I was doing things that I normally smoked while doing. Grilling outdoors, I always had a beer and a cigarette...I grill a lot. On the boat, camping, etc.

If you break down and have one... Don't give up. One set back doesn't mean you should stop trying to quit.

Quit in 2007 cold turkey after about 20 years of smoking. In 2010 after a traumatic event I picked it up again. Quit again in 2013 with the help of e-cigarettes. Kicked that habit too about 7 month later and have not looked back.

Good news is I no longer cough. Bad news is I gained about 40 lbs. Probably would have done that anyway. I now hate the smell of cigarette smoke. So I have no real desire. But probably the first thing I would do if somebody told me I had 6 months to live is buy a pack.

In all seriousness you can kick the habit. Nobody said it would be easy. But it is so worth it!

Thanks a bunch for the offer. I've got a Daughter who's medically trained and just a phone call away.

I've smoked for about 42 years now. Off and on.

Quitting smoking sucks.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_additives_in_cigarettes look over these ingrediants an if any good ones, pick em up at the store, an maybe it will ease the situation. I can smell someone smoking in a car going down the road at 65 mphs per hour, from when i quit. I cant stand it now. its is terrible once you get over the initial withdraws. dont know how to get this bold off? anyhow, they may put this in-lysine, an if you look up lysine, it is a neccesary ingrediant the body needs so when you quit, you may quit gettting this. so may want to look at getting more of it, to replace what you have lost. go down that list - they are sneaky an put in, what you normally need, to get you more addicted......also, sodium chloride/salt......we all need salt an some are getting it thru smoking.......an when they quit, they then dont get enough of it, an crave the cig, when they dont know they actually are craving the salt.......check out the brand that you smoked and call them up an ask them, what they put in, so you can get what you were getting with the cigs that you normally should be getting in your diet. see what they say. :)

most people are deprived of something in their diet an when they start smoking, they end up getting it, if the cigs got it in em......how about that putting good stuff in the cigs, to get you addicted, cause you should be getting it anyhow, but are also getting the poisons of the tobacco.....crazy...

Its been 11 years for me, I went out and bought a brand new motorcycle, so I couldn't afford to smoke anymore....I certainly don't miss it or crave it. Its tough, but once you make your mind up to never smoke again...it gets easier. Stay away from other smokers for a while, that helped me out. Also be prepared to put on some weight...it will happen
Good luck, best decision I ever made!

When I quit I always had trouble on the 3's - day 3, week 3, month 3... I 'finally quit' about 5 years ago for financial reasons. Still cheated an awful lot for the first couple years, but eventually that ended.

A good trick is to keep the rest of your routine as normal as possible. I used to go outside for a cigarette about once an hour during the work day. When I quit I still walked outside, I just didn't smoke. Change one habit at a time.

Good luck to you. It typically takes about 6-7 attempts at quitting before it sticks.
