Quitting smoking

I feel your pain, I quit for new years( and being in a hospital definitely helps) and went all the way through January. Some trivial BS came up a few weeks back and I couldn’t resist “a smoke will make it better”! Tryin again now and can’t (don’t want to) believe I’ve been smokin 17 years!!!

I can only imagine that it is as difficult as it is to quit drinking. That stays with you a long, long time.
I had a buddy of mine quit drinking "just for a few months" to save some money for Christmas gifts for his family. Well, hell...he saved so much money that it's been over two and a half years since he's had a drink. He says that every time he thinks he'd like to buy some hootch, he takes that same amount the alcohol would cost, and puts it in the bank. It worked for him, but then again, I don't think he ever really had a "problem" with alcohol, so maybe it's not quite the same thing. Who knows...maybe every time you (@StG58) want a cig, take the amount it would cost for a pack, and put it in a Jeep jar...? Just a thought.

Actually, the wife suggested that. That's about $30 or so a week earmarked for TJ parts. I like it! Beats raiding the coin jug.

I quit (with the patch) after 35 years of smoking. I never smoked a lot (maybe a pack every 3 Days) but I was definitely addicted. I quit in part with the motivation of my father in law being diagnosed with lung cancer and dying in a matter of months. Then the next year my father was diagnosed with lung cancer (now he was heavy smoker) I went with him everyday at chemo and radiation. I went with him when the surgeon attempted to remove the lobe (unsuccessful due to heart issue) I was with him at the hospital when we informed doctor of dads advanced directives. I was with him when he took his final breath. I’ve been clean for 4 years. I hope it adds quality years to my life to be husband, Dad and Poppaw to my family! Peace and strength to you as you find your reasons to quit.
