PSA: Robert Shaw Thermostat

Just a heads up since some of us are now using the high quality Robert Shaw thermostats from Flowkooler, they do have a bleed hole. Someone remarked that there was nowhere to drill a bleed hole but if you look closely you will see there already is one.
The first picture shows a small raised section where my pencil is pointing, this mark is where the bleed hole is and goes into the engine pointing up. In the second pic I flipped the RS over and put my flashlight behind it and you can see the light coming through the bleed hole.

So don't go drilling holes in the RS and look carefully to be sure you point the bleed hole toward the sky.

Good to know. I know I've made the comment about having no place to drill it, but I also commented that I could hear air bubbling through it as I filled it up so I figured there must have been a hole hidden in there somewhere. I didnt pay any attention to clocking it, so I have no idea where the hole ended up, but it seemed to work well enough that I didn't have to add much at all after the first run cycle.

Just make sure that bleed hole gets positioned at the top when installing it.

There are 2 Robert Shaw thermostats that say they fit TJ’s. How do you know which one to get? They both have the option of 195, but 2 different models

what part numbers are you finding? I only see the 330-195, which is what I used.

i installed the 333. it and the 330 have the same measurements as far as i could tell.
so that may be the two.

No problems, been running in my LJ for 3 years. Reinstalled in the 4.7L stroker I just finished.

Mine's been perfect and my cooling couldn't be better after I removed my stupid grill inserts. Looks better too IMHO.

4.0 Powertech found in 97-06 Wranglers. Can't speak for other models.

Yes. Have it in my 92 and 06 as well as a SBC. No issues.

Probably the best option now that Stant is gone.

Note the bleed hole is under the dimple.

Unfortunately, the Flowkooler website isn't working well... where else can I buy the Robert Shawn Thermostat?
Is there a definitive Amazon link to the Robert Shawn thermostat that fits the TJ 4.0 Sahara S01 engine? I've found so many thermostats now and I'm a bit confused. The Robert Shawn one seems to be enclosed (closed spring housing), while the spring is visible on all the others. Will it still fit?
