You have to at least admit it's better than the alternative that could have been, flash back to 30 years ago...
Picture in your mind, a sea of Betamax and VHS camcorders floating just above shoulder height all trying to capture the moment so as to be able to relive it for years to come!!!
I've had that happen too - but back then it was fairly rare. Now nobody gives a shit, one woman was actually standing up in the aisle waving her precious PHOOOOOONNE overhead, and blocking the view of Goddess only knows how many people who were sitting towards the side.
When I want to video something, I always step to the rear of the hall. I did it in the VHS days, and I do it now. My view is better, and I'm not blocking people. Fucking smartphone culture is just downright rude. I've even had this happen when I was an "official" videographer - I was just about ready to bodily haul a smartphone asshole out by the scruff of his neck after I had asked him TWICE to keep that fucking toy the hell out of the video. He could have done so quite easily as he was sitting down and I was standing up at the rear - but he had to wave the damn thing up in the air, even though he was in the friggin' front row.
These people just don't care - its all about their fucking PHOOOOOONNEs. Like I've said, I wish I had a nickel for every time I've been inconvenienced or annoyed by SOMEBODY ELSE'S damn smartphone. Tonite, the amount went up by at least another dollar's worth of nickels. Step to the rear of the hall and use zoom, or put that toy away. Ye Gods, its just common courtesy - but I'm not even getting a reach-around!
There are all kinds of horror stories on photography forums - esp. involving wedding photography.
At least the church didn't collapse while I was in it.
