Piss & Moan Table

You have to at least admit it's better than the alternative that could have been, flash back to 30 years ago...

Picture in your mind, a sea of Betamax and VHS camcorders floating just above shoulder height all trying to capture the moment so as to be able to relive it for years to come!!!

I've had that happen too - but back then it was fairly rare. Now nobody gives a shit, one woman was actually standing up in the aisle waving her precious PHOOOOOONNE overhead, and blocking the view of Goddess only knows how many people who were sitting towards the side.

When I want to video something, I always step to the rear of the hall. I did it in the VHS days, and I do it now. My view is better, and I'm not blocking people. Fucking smartphone culture is just downright rude. I've even had this happen when I was an "official" videographer - I was just about ready to bodily haul a smartphone asshole out by the scruff of his neck after I had asked him TWICE to keep that fucking toy the hell out of the video. He could have done so quite easily as he was sitting down and I was standing up at the rear - but he had to wave the damn thing up in the air, even though he was in the friggin' front row.

These people just don't care - its all about their fucking PHOOOOOONNEs. Like I've said, I wish I had a nickel for every time I've been inconvenienced or annoyed by SOMEBODY ELSE'S damn smartphone. Tonite, the amount went up by at least another dollar's worth of nickels. Step to the rear of the hall and use zoom, or put that toy away. Ye Gods, its just common courtesy - but I'm not even getting a reach-around! ;)

There are all kinds of horror stories on photography forums - esp. involving wedding photography.

At least the church didn't collapse while I was in it. ;) :D

Your hatred of the smart phone has got your panties in such a wad you actually think the utter disrespect that has been growing in society is related to PHOOOOOONNEs... That's priceless.. :ROFLMAO:

You certainly could be right - all I know is smartphone culture is generally RUDE. The PHOOOOOONNE always takes precedence. Over everything and everybody. The damn thing certainly hasn't helped the situation.

What exactly are "smartphone people?" Because if they are everyone with a smartphone, you just accused most of the forum members of being incapable of displaying courteousness. ;)

That remains to be seen. At this point, I assume the worst until proven otherwise. Sorry - not sorry.

That's for smartphone people that are courteous, if there is such a thing. Best place is usually in the back, standing up, with a tripod. On a platform if you can manage it.

Well, from what I’ve witnessed on this forum, you are not very observant. Members here have been INCREDIBLY courteous to you, and to most other members.

And you're COMPLETELY missing the point. Your statement is COMPLETELY correct, but has nothing whatsoever to do with smartphones. Most people are courteous until the smartphone comes out - which is usually all too soon. I'm not saying people here are necessarily like that - I'm saying that would remain to be seen. Smartphone people as a group have little courtesy when it comes to their oh-so-precious devices. LIke I have said many times, if I had a nickel for every time I've been annoyed or inconvenienced by somebody else's phucking smartphone, I'd be writing this from my villa in Greece while eating breakfast served to me by a "Po Po Maria"! Last nite's event was simply yet another example of hundreds.

Hi I’m Bucky and I’m a Smartphone addict. I could not live without my smartphone. I have not touched my lap top for years.
I see Zorba’s point. I’m in the habit of putting my phone in silent mode when in a public setting such as the Dr’s office or a restaurant. Also when I’m talking with someone and my phone rings I don’t answer it. If it’s important they’ll leave a voice mail and I’ll get to them latter. I don’t sleep with it next to me since I retired and was not on call 24/7/365.

I could count on one hand the amount of times I’ve taken my phone off silent for a few minutes over the last 3 years. No idea what a the ringtone on my phone even sounds like.

Mine’s the old fashion phone bell. My biggest problem with any phone is the amount of spam I get. I deal with a lot of people around the country and need to answer so the area code is not helpful. If I say hello and hear the click of their auto dialer I just hand up. The spam feature is worthless because my Dr, Dentist and many of the companies I deal with that make a lot of calls shows up as Spam.
I’ve use cell phones since the 80s when I had a suitcase phone and calls cost $$ a minute. I only gave my number to a few people and used a pager to screen calls. Yes I’m old you young-ins probably have never seen either one.

My iPhone sends every unknown number straight to voicemail. Most don’t leave one.

Google, Meta, Microsoft, et al will sell your number in a hot second if you don't click the impossible to find box that tells them not to.

Not sure that applies as I don’t have an account with any of those, or any other online service. I do not give my mobile number, I use my desk number at work. It was the Dr office, either deliberately selling my info, or there was a data breach and it was stolen.

They have a computer that generates phone numbers and calls them. When you answer you’ll hear a click as it transfers the call. Usually someone out of the country. Amazing how many guys in India are named Kevin. Spam calls are fits and starts with me. Several times a day and then nothing for days. Interestingly when I travel out of the country I get very few spam calls but all my others come through with no issues. Because of the time differences those calls usually come in the middle of the night.
