Piss & Moan Table

I buy most everything from them. Deodorant last week. Lots of my clothes and shoes now come from them. Buy someone is always watching prime in the house so we get that benefit also.

I recently learned a lesson in buying electronics through Amazon. Jabra Elite 7 Pro ear buds to be specific. It would seem that there are companies that figured out how to obtain either knock off or units that did not pass inspection for one reason or another.

I ordered a set from an Amazon retailer that had them "on sale" for about $30 cheaper than buying them through Jabra directly, and free shipping of course. When I put them on and tried them out everything seemed to work as advertised. Sound quality was all it had been hyped up to be and when I made a call out the person I called heard me clearly... That was until I got into a noisy environment. This particular set not only canceled all the background noise out, it also canceled my voice.

After a couple emails back and forth with Jabra, one of their customer service reps called me and walked me through all the reset and set up procedures. Tried it out again and same result. This person connected me with another "specialist", who's first question was where did you make your purchase. Although the seller I got it through was not on her list she explained to me that Amazon doesn't care if their sellers are selling counterfeit items...

So I sent the pair I got back to Amazon as a return instead of exchange marked defective.

The specialist I was talking to ended up selling me a pair directly from Jabra with a discount that matched the "sale" price of the previous purchase. She also added that seller to her so called naughty list...

Needless to say from now on when/if I buy electronics I look for authorized sellers or better yet Amazon suites that belong to the manufacturer.

I try to avoid third party sellers if I can. Buy from Amazon or from the manufacturers Amazon listings.

I don't know when it started, but I learned it buying some office supplies recently, did a double take but my order ended up being over $50 so it wasn't an issue.

I just tossed a couple things in my cart to see what it did & sure enough, I put a bag of coffee beans in for $14 & went to the cart where it reminded me I'd need to add $21 more to 'qualify' for free shipping.

Seems they're falling in line with Walmart which has been $35 as long as I can remember.

And while I'm bitching about Amazon, I'll add this - have you noticed how they're constantly trying to harangue you into 'subscribing' to a particular item?

I want a gallon of Tide, but no Amazon, I don't want you to deliver another one just like it every two weeks for fuck sakes...
In general, I hate subscriptions and avoid them like the plague. The only exception is "Kindle Unlimited" as I'm a voracious reader.

About the best garbage on Amazon are the bits and pieces of fasteners and small switches which are all made in China anyway. I’ve had to replace the motor on my shop fan and Amazon has come through with the hard to find locally parts I need. I’ve bought a 3/4hp motor, pulleys and switches I need. All made in China. The electronic junk is all counterfeit best I can tell. Apple air pods etc.

Don't wanna be $9.99 a monthed to death.

Exactly, everybody out there wants to parasitically drain your credit card for the rest of eternity, they’re all looking for 8 million miniature annuities in the form of mostly useless subscriptions. Witness again the Amazon fuckery, who on earth wants to ‘subscribe’ to laundry detergent, what the actual fuck, are people so fucking lazy that they can’t order shit when they need it, rather they think it’s a good idea to get X dropped off every whatever interval so they don’t have to think about it, or is it the 9 cents you save on each unit if you subscribe.

We’ve talked about subscriptions in this or other threads as they relate to the auto industry, & how it’s pushing towards a model where you have to subscribe to things like your own radio, or your heated seats – pricks

I found the subscriptions pretty handy with an infant in the house, especially with the second one that had some sort of food allergy that we had to use formula that was $350/month to keep him from having bloody diarrhea 8x a day (fortunately he grew out of that before he went to solid food and now eats anything). The discount was significant enough that it probably saved us $50/mo over buying them at the grocery store, we knew when we were gonna need it every month, and it beat having to take up all the cart space with a month worth of diapers and formula when I bought groceries.

I still use it for household filters. furnace, refrigerator water. They get replaced on regular intervals that I appear constitutionally incapable of keeping on top of. I set them up for the interval I need to replace them in, they show up, I change them out. Done. WIthout that, I would probably go 6 years between changing my furnace filters. I'm an HVAC engineer and I'm fully aware of the impact of doing that. But you know what they say about the cobblers' kids having no shoes.

We probably get 5+ Amazon deliveries a week. All at no extra charge due to Prime membership. We also live 25 minutes from everything and I can almost always wait a day or two for something so I save a lot of time, gas, and vehicle mileage not making unscheduled trips to a store.

Now for the piss and moan: I've started seeing more and more items on amazon advertised as same-day or overnight delivery with a minimum $25 order of qualified items, but I never seem to need any other qualified items when that comes up, and if I go looking for some, by the time I get back to my cart it all says the usual next day or two day with no apparent option to get it back.

yea I don't have any objection to using Amazon and Walmart to save money over the grocery store, after all that's exactly the reason I use them... my issue is the subscription itself, which doesn't, from any of the ones I've seen, save me shit over the 'buy once' option they also offer, & would only serve to put shit on my doorstep when I'm not expecting it, don't need it, or could very well be out of town when it arrives so for me there's no upside.

And I replace my air and water filters & such on regular intervals also, but I'll be damned if I'm going to assume every X months that the subscription price I've pre-agreed to as set by Bezos continues to be the best price, that's the kind of thing that if you stop paying attention to you may be getting screwed to the wall but good over time, I just don't trust Amazon or any retailer for that matter as far as I can throw it.

I'd far prefer to spend a minute or two each time I need to make a purchase to see who has what at what price & so forth, that's how I stay current in the market of whatever it is I'm buying. It works, during the course of any given year I jump back & forth between the two big retailers for the same products as their prices fluctuate up & down...

Don't get me started on the CarCos and the effete N. American automotive market. I could rant for days...

Went out today to see that someone had broken into the wife's '96 XJ 2-door. Looks like they used a slim-jim on it. They rifled through it. No evidence they attempted to actually steal it, as the ignition is still intact and functioning. They did, however, steal the ashtray from the rear of the console. As it was empty, I'm going to assume someone has a Cherokee with the same console, and decided they needed the ashtray more than I did.

This little rig was stolen from us back on August 5th of 2020. Since getting it back later that same day, I've kept the coil wire in the house with the keys. It wouldn't actually prevent it from being stolen if someone wanted it bad enough, but it would at least slow them down enough to make them have to work for it.

I fuckin' hate thieves...😡

I'm not sure how common those are on the eastside of the Cascades, but on the westside there are quite a few Hiaces and Delicas running around in the wild. Whenever I see one, I always wonder what part availability and cost is for them.

I see a number of them along the I-5 corridor up here, as well. I assume it's because we're so close to the Canadian border, where they have more stuff like that (vehicles the U.S. doesn't get).

See them rarely but see them listed For Sale now and then.
