ORO Swayloc Clunk

Just curious, but did you run your Sway Loc dry for any length of time before the initial greasing?

If so, how long, how many miles, etc.?

BTW, where is all that grease going?
Always greased, never ran dry. Anytime it gets clunky, I regreased. I have only about 200-300 miles since installing the Swayloc. I think I found where all the grease went-- inside and out all over all the sliding components.

No visible damage or indicators that I could tell.

I paid close attention during reassembly to make sure all arms were seated properly. It's hard to tell, but it looks like I was able to close the gap a little between the greased arms. Not much (sub millimeter range), but hopefully it will make a difference. I cleaned all the parts the best I could and regreased with a good silicon tacky grease (similar to what came with the SwayLOC). Followed that with a quarter-pump of marine grease to fill in any gaps. I guess we will see in a couple days.

Have you heard back from SwayLoc? I'd give them a call if they're not answering emails.
Nonresponse via email yet. I’ll drive it a couple days and call later in the week.

Perhaps its a bit late for this, but have you read the Stu Olsen Sway-Loc write-ups? His installation article covers the original version, but also links to a page that illustrates the changes/"upgrades" for "Generation II."

Something in those articles might be helpful. There are many good photos.

I went through this, yes. I also went through Stu’s guide for the hub kit. This resource is incredibly helpful. Got the Black Magic brakes installed too 🙂. Thanks Blaine!

The hub kit is so tiny...

Stu has a great site and has some great info there. He's fun to go on trail runs with also. Back in the JU days I met him in Moab.

. . . The hub kit is so tiny...

Just for fun, here's a side-by-side visual of the Yukon 5x4.5 hub kit and Yukon 5x5.5 hub kit,.

The 5x4.5 kit has certain advantages that had I considered more carefully back then would have heavily influenced my particular choice, such as a much better selection of wheels with the appropriate backspacing than wheels with the 5x5.5 lug pattern. (Actually, I would not have needed to purchase wheels at all with the smaller hub kit. I think that my background as a CJ guy and the nostalgic side of my brain conspired to make me rationalize that any hub with a "real Jeep" lug pattern must be better. Its definitely "better" in the sense that now the lug patterns on my jeep and '46 Bantam trailer match.)

To OP, I agree with everyone else about contacting ORO by phone. A new SwayLoc should not have that much clearance between the sway bar and bushings. I would venture to guess something is not machined to the correct dimensions.

Unfortunately, the play is back. Only lasted ~30 miles. I’ve been unsuccessful getting ahold of anyone from ORO.
No one answers the phone when I call and their voicemail box is full. Sounds like they may be short staffed currently.
No response via email either.

Try contacting them via Facebook?

If you purchased through a reseller try returning/exchanging through them?

Yes, I’m on it.
Northridge said they will reach out on my behalf to see if I can get it warrantied.

I've always had good luck with Northridge. I remember when they first started and where working out of their garage. Had a heck of a time finding there shop too. But I needed my hubs warrantied and so had to stop by.
Good luck and hope you get this sorted out.
