Original Thermostat

About 10 years ago, I cleaned and refreshed my entire cooling system, and that included a new thermostat. Although the replacement (Mopar) thermostat works fine, it never has been as consistent as the original one was. And it seems to stay closed a tad bit longer than my original one did before it opens.

My original thermostat still worked *perfectly* when I took it out. It had a little over a 100K miles on it, and I did save it.

Is there a reason I shouldn't put it back in service again?

It has been working fine for 10 years, so there's that.

I don't know what temperature it opens at, only that the needle on the gauge shows it goes a tick past 210 before it opens. It always looks like it isn't going to open - then it does. I don't remember my original one getting that high on the gauge.

Once it opens, it stays a tick under 210, just like my original one.

Why is that? Isn't that a fail-safe thermostat?

Remember the gauge isn't super accurate. I have a scan tool (MAC) that I can watch the temp with.

If its that close I would just leave well enough alone.

You need to plug in and see what the temps really are.

I wouldn't rely on what the gauge is telling you to diagnose anything. What the gauge shows and the temp the ECM shows are not always the same.
