Anybody own a toterhome?

No but know a few who own them. Since I use to be a truck driver they always interested me since from the front it looked like a semi and I could row the gears. What I do know is that you need to check to see how they are setup. Many that I have looked at were setup for the race track so they had smaller fresh water tanks and not much in the way of amenities.

I hardly ever cooked in my RV no matter what it was. I carried a grill & camp stove and enjoyed cooking outside plus then I didn't have a mess to clean up inside. A lot easier to clean an outside cooking area. And on some trips I would be cooking for a dozen or more folks depending on the group.

My wife and I bought a class A a few years ago. We paid 15,000 for it. It's about the size of a 15 passenger van, yet it's a full MH. It sits low to the ground, only 1 step to get in. Drives like a van and were getting 11.5 mpg with it. It's a gasser, so no DEF to worry about.

She's a 1978. Before you think, " man, you're crazy," hear me out.

What I posted about is true. It also has walnut cabinets and very little particle board (I haven't found any yet, but I'm sure there is some). It has a tremendous following from people that are very passionate about their coaches. There are still a lot of parts available, and those that are drying up are being repopped by that same passionate group of owners. A good rule of thumb is to budget about 30k including purchase price for a good, reliable rig. That's doing your own work. If you gotta pay someone, add 20k in labor. I have about 20k into mine at this point. I have two more roof leaks to track down (both very minor) and I need to really go through the fuel system and harden it against ethanol. My electrical is kind of a mess, but it all works. It will need attention, but can get me through.

Pretty soon, my wife and I will pull the interior out to refresh and modernize it. The headliner needs replacing, and "while we're in there...."
Gotta ask, what size engine does it have?

A carburated (maybe spelled wrong) small block pulls that heavy thing, & still gets 11mpg? Have you talked much with the big block guys? I wonder if they get better or worse?

My dad had a 73 3/4 chevy, 350 4 barrel, 3 on the tree. Bought it new, it got 9mpg empty or loaded so heavy the back bumper dragged the ground.

This brings a new dimension to RV camping/home on wheels/office on wheels and technology.

Looking forward to seeing the range when you load it up and leave the highway.
I would be carrying a generator around with me but with today's tech and how rapidly new tech toys are turned out it wouldn't surprise me if in the near future solar panels could be incorporated into the truck and camper to extend the range if not make it limitless.

I watched the TFL video on the Jeep 4xe and it made it 3.5 miles off-road starting with 93% battery. Luckily it’s a hybrid.

Take that piece of shit to Maine or Minnesota in February then talk to me about limitless.

Or anywhere else. The quest for better solar panels has been going on for decades - with very little improvement. Solar cost $10/watt 40 years ago - and although it has come down to about $1/watt for consumer grade panels, the efficiency has increased very little. The last time I looked, commercial grade panels were STILL $10/watt - but that was a few years ago now.

I'm all for solar power, and I hope "someday" the efficiency increases 10 or 100 fold - but at the moment it still seems like a 50 year old pipe dream.
