So I have a old Mopar bikini that I have been hopeful to toss on the LJ. Finally getting around to looking at it and all the important bits seem to been in place. That being the header to hook the top on. I seem to be able to find a lot of tops on eBay, but never the header. I have left the header in the bag as the adhesive foam is part of the install and I wanted it to remain in good condition.
The header is a drill style and what I am wanting to know is if it can be installed it on and '06. Paperwork indicates '01 as the model year. It looks like I would need to make some modifications to the plastic part holding onto the visors and what not.
Option 2 would be to sell it and get a header from Bestop, but I hear Mopar can be nice. Thoughts? 💭

I have what looks like the same bikini top for my 2001. I bought it around the same time I purchased the Jeep so it’s also 23 years old. I recently decided to change it for a full length safari top from Bestop for more coverage. I was hoping the new safari top would work with the existing drill in header but it does not. Bestop (whol made the original Mopar bikini) changed the channel design years ago as the tops now use a rigid plastic insert vs a thick flexible rope. I ended up having to buy a new header to mount the safari top.

So short answers. You probably won’t find a new header that will work with that older bikini.

However, the header you have should work with no problems. The new header I bought fit my 2001 with no issues and the fitment was pretty much identical to my original header. The main difference is new headers are now two piece (probably for shipping) and only fit newer style tops using the plastic insert as mentioned. Personally I liked the older top style better so I would keep what you have and install it.

I think you are correct. I cannot find another header to match. I went ahead and installed it to see. Took a little trimming but overall fits well. Think I'll pick up the others I have seen on eBay as back up and run it.
I will also scan in the instructions to a PDF in case someone keeps them on record some place.
