Low MPG on windy days?

Most people don't pay attention. I've noticed it on high-mpg cars, too. Side winds hurt, even if they're from slightly behind.

Yep, On a road bike, the only good wind is a direct or almost direct, tailwind. Otherwise, you're fighting it. And that's at 15 to 20 MPH. Wind resistance increases as the the square of the speed.

When I bought my first TJ, I checked the MPGs by filling the tank and running it empty.....twice. I carried a gas can with me for when I ran out. That was 19 Jeeps ago and I haven't cared about gas mileage since then. 🤫

This is me. My wife hates that I dance with the devil before refueling. I just have to know what the E really means! 😅

My last 3 fill-ups have been just the opposite. Normally I get 14-15. All of the sudden I've seen 17 mpg. Granted, I'm fairly easy on the right pedal most of the time, but I don't feel I've been that much easier.
Must've been the torque-band.

Aerodynamics. Wranglers are not aerodynamic; most other vehicles are.

A cow is more aerodynamic

In March of this year I did a 3000 ish mile trip out west. The first day I was fighting horrible winds. It was so mentally draining that I took a break every hour or so. 60-65mph. I was getting 13mpg ish. Later in the trip, cruising across flat areas of the west at similar speeds, I was getting 17-19mpg.

Our Jeeps are about as aerodynamic as a sheet of plywood. Wind kills the mpgs.

Will do. You just don’t hear people who own other vehicles stating that the wind is reducing their fuel economy. Then again I haven’t driven a vehicle more affected by wind than my softtop TJ. A Honda Element my mother used to own though was also pretty bad.

Wind absolutely hurts other vehicles. All of the trucks I’ve owned fluctuate by 3-6 mpg depending on direction and speed of wind.

I did that one time (I had the Jerry can of gas)drove 42 miles after the light came on and chickened out and put the gas in(lol)I would really like to fill it up and see how many miles until it runs out.

When my gas light comes on and I fill up I typically get around 14gallons in... So still 5 left
