Jeep broken down, help! - FIXED!

Well, if your post is genuine, then I need to tell you there is literally no point in proceeding until you drain the fuel from the gas tank and clean your fuel system. That needs to be step #1.

The fuel thing we were talking about was a branch out with a reply about my Subaru which I mentioned at one point. It's the Subaru with old fuel, not the Jeep.

I have replaced the actuator pin on several other Jeeps with the same symptoms as the OP stated. It is a fairly easy fix that will hopefully get the TJ going. Let's see what happens once the part gets there.

After that's done and you have fresh fuel, your jeep will most likely turn on. Then you can return all the stuff you bought.

Wow! you'r not following this thread very well. The OP said that his Jeep was running and sat for only a couple of days before this problem started. The 9 year old fuel is in his second vehicle, a Subaru.

Thanks for your help & support guys. The part should be with me tomorrow. I've blocked that troll guy, so I'm not seeing any posts from him. Life's too short! So I'm hoping by the end of the week that I'll have my Jeep back running. I'm keeping the Jeep battery on a pulse charger. Regarding my Subaru, I'm going to have to get that taken to the Subaru dealer on a flat bed vehicle & get them to pump out the fuel & clean the lines. It was my own bad move - I wasn't thinking straight. I really appreciate all the help & support for my Jeep. My wife misses the Jeep too!

Well hopefully that fixes it and it should, but if it doesn't we'll need to dig deeper and we can work you through that as well.

Manxie, I am just hoping its something simple and it fires right up....

Me too. The shop checked the starter, the relay and the wiring to them, so the logical conclusion is that it's in the ignition and the only thing that goes bad in there is the actuator pin. There is always an outside chance that it's the computer but troubleshooting that is expensive and difficult ... I guess it's always possible that the shop didn't check the things they said they did, but we'll deal with that later if we need to.

Thanks guys. I don't really know for sure what the shop checked. But I'm fairly sure they checked the starter & the battery as that's what they thought was the problem. The steering column shroud has been taken off & left in the footwell. So I think they may have been checking the ignition cylinder. Hopefully, I'll have better news in a few days.

The WR1 is a 500 car special edition made to celebrate Petter Solberg winning the WRC in 2003. They all were in a special colour Ice Blue & took the STi & handed it to Prodrive to add their magic. Power is 320bhp, 0-60 in 4.25 secs. The best thing for me about the car is the stunning gearing with a gorgeous 3rd gear. Prodrive designed the car for UK roads, not for the track & it really is a great car for day to day use.

I checked my records & I've not driven it for 9 years. Which makes the fuel a bit old?
Awesome car, guess I derailed the thread a bit with the question, I was thinking 6 months to 1 year old gas but wow 9 years! Good luck with them both I will wait for the outcome!

A very happy result! :)

The ignition actuator pin arrived today along with a security Torx kit. I called my local guy & he turned up quickly. His first step was to trigger the starter with the ignition on, which cranked the engine but did not fire. I then gave him the new part & my new security Torx kit. It was a fiddly job for him to fit & it took him an hour, but afterwards, the car started perfectly. You can guess I was pretty pleased!

My deep thanks to everyone on the forum & I have become a contributor to show my support. Without you guys, my Jeep may have been scrapped. I've linked to a very short YouTube video I made of the symptoms, I hope that it might help someone. I've also posted a photo of the old broken part.

Thanks again from me, my wife & Jeepy!
