Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

It just happened!

Very cool! Post your install. If this thread is not the right place to post, let me know where you start up your new thread.

If you post, I’ll follow you there, because I’d love to see. I think, the A2798 will require some additional mods for me to install in my Jeep. And I believe it will leave some “free property” available that everyone else (but me as a newbie), would probably know exactly what to put in there in a heartbeat…. LOL!

I am installing the Koyorad A2798 in my 06 lj 6-spd manual next week.

Hi @oldjeepman….

I’m not sure of your build project, radiator size in an 2006 LJ and use for your A2798, but you might want to check A2798’s dimensions. A2798 is a long, lean “Sally”….

Koyorad recommends A2102 for 1987-2005 Jeeps. I saw no listings for 2006…. Don’t know what the 2006 radiator size is, but A2102 for ‘87-05 is boxy.

Also have attached the spec sheets of the 2 Koyorad radiators A2798 and A2102…. IMG_1924.jpegIMG_1926.jpeg

The small hub kit has been test-fitted, and driven, to verify that it would solve the vibration issue. On the plus side it does. On the negative side, there is only 7 threads of engagement on the lug nuts, which is insufficient for regular use. Since there isn't a viable press in wheel stud in the correct length and configuration, the solution has to be a that the rotors need to be drilled with a normal 1/2" hole and the spindle needs to be drilled and tapped for a 1/2-20 screw in wheel stud. My next task is to find a machine shop that will do the work. I've gone to two so far and they won't take the work. :cautious:

I used ET lug nuts on mine. No issues last 4+ years.

Because this tire combination is heavier than anything I've run before, my plan is to find a place to do the machine work that allows for longer screw-in wheel studs. I currently have a set of 2.5" and 3" studs waiting to test fit but that is proving to be a bigger than expected effort. Today saw the third machine shop I've visited, all with the same results. Nobody wants to do the work. My next closest shops are 45 and 60 miles away. In the interim, I've ordered a set of ET lug nuts to test fit, as a backup plan. Thanks for the tip!

Do you have a vocational/trade school near by with a machine shop? Just a thought.

I've followed the tip @taylormade73 provided and ordered a set of Extended Thread (ET) lug nuts. This makes it so I've got a solid12 threads of engagement on the lug nuts. I'm still pursuing a machine shop that will do the work for threaded wheel studs and have a lead on one about an hour away.

However, with the interim fix in place, the Jeep can be comfortably driven now. The spin-free kit absolutely solved the driveline vibration issue and for the first time since doing the Savvy belly skid, 241, and RubiCrawler install, the Jeep is a pleasure to drive. There is still a small amount of vibration from the transmission mount, which is consistent with the 2 other Savvy skid installs I've done. It's not horrible but is noticeable compared to the stock transmission mount.

Just catching — Wheels look great! I kinda hate that you're helping add to my list of likes as I add them to my (my wife will hate you more when she knows about) beadlockers I like list...

Jeep looks great! Congrats on approaching retirement - Keep up the upgrades now before you hit that precipice of unknown financials. I know that's what I'd do... ;)

I like the nuts and bolts organizer. I really need something like that.

I threw out about 20 plastic containers that all this stuff was in. Wish I would have done this a while ago. Also organized all the tools and parts for wheeling trips. Those are now in the Packout cases, ready to go whenever I am. No more hunting for stuff to pack in the truck and Jeep.
