Novak Conversions Jeep Wrangler TJ radiator

It just happened!

Swapped in a set of Teraflex 9550 shocks, front and rear, and this helped stabilize the ride. Whenever the shock outboarding gets done, I'll spend the money and get tuned shocks.

I also checked the axles to see if they are squared up. It appears like the left side wheelbase measures exactly 104". The passenger side is coming in at 103.25". Anyone know how much the .75" difference would effect ride and handling?

How are you measuring your wheelbase? That’s actually pretty difficult to do accurately because unless the steering is dead on center, and depending on your method, one side could be short and the other long.

The key alignment measurement on a solid axle vehicle is that the front and rear axles are perpendicular to the centerline of the rig.

Can't you just do a cross measurement, like squaring up a wall? I don't mean from axle to axle. Front axle to skid plate bolt, then rear axle to skid plate bolt.

Not a typical shock choice. What made you go that direction?

I bought a new set of 4 for $50. They're also a perfect match, 50/50 split, for my setup. The Black Max shocks are a fantastic shock for the money but way too soft on the LJ. It was annoying me on every drive. Rode like a 70's Cutlass ! 😉

I'm very confident the wheels were straight. After getting them in position, and carefully marking lines on the garage floor, I took two measurements. One center of wheel to center of wheel. Then did what @bobthetj03 said. After running the math, both measurements came out .75" off.

75" off is a lot...😉 better get that fixed.
 
When I did both stretches I always measured off the center skid bolt hole and made sure to measure to the same part of the axle on both sides. Probably not the best, but has worked for me in the past.

Sometimes the little things make you feel really stupid. Today I had to load up the LJ to take it to the shop that did my gears and rear Ox locker install. Reason for the trip was twofold:

- 1st, they needed to fix a leaking inner passenger side front seal. It started leaking about 400 miles into the 500 mile break-in;
- 2nd, they were scheduled to do a 4-wheel alignment, to get the front dialed in and rear squared up.

Successful on both accounts.

In the process of loading the jeep on the trailer, I noticed something about the Mac straps I hadn't paid attention to before. Each strap had a small thumb lever for engaging or releasing the hooks. I've used these straps for at least 12 -15 times and just noticed it today. What an idiot I am!

Took the Jeep out today for a test drive and for the 1st time since owning it I'm happy with the way it rides and handles. Now I can get focused, when time permits, on installing the pile of parts waiting. The only thing left to sort out is the 35" wheel and tire combination I want. This will be driven by the bolt pattern I decide to run.

Took the Jeep out today for a test drive and for the 1st time since owning it I'm happy with the way it rides and handles. Now I can get focused, when time permits, on installing the pile of parts waiting. The only thing left to sort out is the 35" wheel and tire combination I want. This will be driven by the bolt pattern I decide to run.

When I bought the Jeep it had a 1st Generation set of Quadratec LED headlights. While they do a decent job of putting down light, I really don't like the look. Likewise, the TJ has a set of early JW Speaker LEDs. These are not visually appealing either. I've got a set of old H4 headlights from RoundEyes, which I like the look of. Thoughts from others?

The 1st picture is the Quadratec lights.
Second is the JWSpeaker.
Third is the H4 RoundEyes.

Voting #3 here - Closer to stock, which is my preference.

I'm going to H4s right now. Likely won't have them wired up for a bit but that's there I'm heading on mine, hence my preference...

D) none of the Above.

Get a set of the Koiti H4 lights from Toyota, Cibie H4 housings for incandescent, or Holly Retrobrights, if you want LED.

I'm really leaning toward picking up a set of the Retrobrights to replace my Cibie's. With LED's, I can return my headlight circuit back to stock (I'm running a piggy back harness and relay set-up to pull voltage direct from the battery) and eliminate more potential failure points.
