Looking at 35" tire options for 17" rims. Jeep will be driven primarily offroad, is not a daily driver. Looking between nitto trail grapple and MT Baja Boss MT. I live in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Jeep won't be used in winter, at least not on the road.

Considering the following:

Nitto Trail Grappler (35x11.5)
Pros:
bit narrower, less risk of rubbing
Still an MT

Cons:
Heavy
Expensive
Seems less common

MT Baja Boss
Pros:
less expensive
Reviews seem excellent

Cons:
Wider
Still heavy

I got the Baja boss mt on mine. Pretty good on the road. Very good off road, especially for mud, you barely even spin with these. It's a very thick, stiff tire so you barely get any sidewall flex until like 15 psi. I run mine at 20 psi on the road

I have never run the Baja MT's but lots of friends love them. The TJ I picked up has the Baja ATZ's. I don't hate them.

Personally my four tire choices are Toyo, Nitto, BFG and General Grabbers

NItto would be my choice. But my KM3's have been my favorite MT as of late. Been running them since 2020. Great tire, do extremely well in the desert stuff we got out here. I ran Nitto's on my JL and also really liked those tires. Sidewalls tend to be a bit stiff though.

I saw some some Baja bosses in action on CO granite and they struggled. I was disappointed as I was considering them for my next tire

I was too. From what I saw in Moab, they hooked up pretty good out there compared to most other tires. But in Moab, you can damn near get away with any tire.....even @BVJeep 's old bald tires

I'm glad I still have a lot of tread left on my MT/R's, but we'll have to figure something out soon.

How old were the Bosses? I wasn't that impressed with them after my first Moab trip. Once I ran them on the Rubicon they started to improve quite a bit.

Finding the right pressure on them also makes a difference as I've run pressures where they didn't grab that well.

What psi do you find them to work best? Do you change based on the terrain?

And I think the MT/R's were the same way. Brand new they weren't so great, but once you get them roughed up pretty good they start hooking up better.

I've settled on 8 psi. I ran lower and ended up bringing it back up and they work better for me. I'd change if needed. I haven't get the opportunity to play around that much with pressures and terrains.

My son has 33 12.50 15 Bajas on his 01. 1 went back for warranty and a 2nd one that was denied warranty coverage. Heckuva time getting/keeping them balanced. Incredible on & off road when you can get/keep them true.
I'm a Cooper STT Pro fan myself
