Help Me Choose Please!

I'd skip them both. You think you hear a knock in the bottom end of the TJ? And the LJ has line-x interior? Both deal breakers for me.

Hmm…interesting. First post with that opinion, but I get it. I don’t like the line x inside but I’ve seen many people do it.

If your going to use it for a hunting/fishing/camping rig the extra space in the LJ will come in handy. Not saying you can't in a TJ, just a little more room in the LJ.

Yeah I bet the extra space is nice. Plus they are kind of rare it seems. Not that I really care about resale , but it’s always nice to have something a little special-er.

I have had both. Currently have TJ and used to have an LJ. I got the LJ after having a YJ that didn’t have enough space to carry my kids and their stuff when they were small.

The LJ has more leg room in the back seat and more cargo space for sure but some parts and accessories aren’t as available as the TJ. The LJ will drive smoother because of the extra wheel base and can tow more.

The TJ has a tighter turning radius and can go some places that the LJ might not.

To me the TJ is more fun and my kids are grown so I don’t really need the extra rear leg room or cargo space anymore.

Just things to keep in mind.

All good points. I appreciate all the feedback. Keep ‘em coming!

I’m guessing the letters JK are bad over here?? Seems like those that I am seeing are lower miles and cheaper, but I’m just now getting the nerve to look at TJs. I have been pretty hard core CJ-7 in the past (with one YJ in there somehow lol).

I would DEFINITELY go for the 2000 with the automatic. It has a lot fewer potential problems than the 2006 with automatic has. But more importantly to me, I much prefer the 3-speed 32RH automatic used in the 2000 than the 4-speed 42RLE used in 2003 and newer TJs. The 32RH is far more likely to live a long happy life without problems and it's far easier to gear for.

What makes the 32rh easier to gear for Jerry? Can you explain what you mean by that?

For the prices and mileage, I'd go with neither. There are much better deals out there.

Hmmm....so far everyone has said these are both a decent deal. I'm still looking around, but in my area these prices don't seem too bad. I agree...I don't like the mileage on either of them. Again, I'm having a hard time finding much lower mileage near me, but I'm still looking!

It usually takes me close to a year (checking ads daily) to find a really nice TJ for a good price. Never jump on the OK deals. When they pop up, they sell within hours where I live. I paid $9500 for my current Jeep when it was stock (120,000 miles), then had to sell it (money issues) and bought it back 2 years later (134,500 miles) for $9,000. It's your money so if you like something, get it.

Yeah I definitely think I'm having some FOMO on the LJ. It is really clean and I think the price is at least decent. It's a local Jeep that a mechanic owned. I'm just not sure if I want the longer version...and I don't like the mileage or line x inside. Maybe I just need to take a deep breath. I'm not waiting a year though lol.

I agree with @TheBoogieman, I would pass on both… in My opinion, unless You know the complete history, there is no way I’m giving 7k for a vehicle that has 249,000 miles on it… thats A lot of miles… 179,000 is still a lot of miles and for $12k…hmmm…. I was just in the same position 2 weeks ago looking for a replacement Jeep and thought I was going to have to settle for a 170,000 mile jeep for $12,5k when I stopped looking for a couple of days and thought about what I really wanted… ended up with this one, 1997 128,000 miles I6 auto Texas jeep for $7k…. figure Out what you want and don’t rush the deal… you’ll know the right one when you see it!… YMMV

Nice find. I have definitely got the fever after a few years away lol.

For reference I just picked up a 2006 LJ Rubicon, 6sp, 112,000, on board air, warn winch, 2” spacer lift. Came with hardtop and soft top (in good shape), 32”x10.50 tires on 15” rims, one time owner and most of the service records for 19K here in CA. Might have been a little high, but been looking for about year and was the first Rubicon I’ve seen for sale and was in good shape so made the jump. Compared to others I’ve seen for sale within a few hundred miles overall seemed like “decent deal”.
