Which one of these TJs would you choose?

What I meant was, it is not easy to swap out the 1999+ rotary dials for the 1997/1998 slider controls.

Why would anyone but a very select few want that anyway?

OP, I do agree that #2 sounds good… but #3 has my vote strictly due to color…

Well, #2 bought and paid for. It drove great the 60 miles on the way home. First thing I'm going to do is change the OPDA. I picked the Crown OPDA up at the Summit warehouse on the way in.
Now I'm official, LOL. One quick pic a few minutes ago.

Nice canvas. Beautiful color. Congratulations!

Congratulations!

At first glance those "maybe all season?" tires on it were telling me that it was probably the least abused of the three possibilities (none looked bad) but now you should get some more "off road looking" tires even if you're not planning on going off road,

And something about the new OPDAs being much better mechanically so they won't wear out but the electronic stuff in there sucks so you should swap in the original electronic stuff. I wish I remembered the actual details on that.

Because someone will come along and say something like "well, you could get a later model TJ and simply swap out the HVAC units."

I have seen a few posts of people who wanted to "upgrade" from the sliders to the rotary dials, and it is VERY involved.

Is that a thing?

I spent about 20 minutes on the ground under it with a flashlight and inspection mirror before I bought it. The frame and body is as good as it looks. No rust under the carpet. No leaks, seriously. The seller had about 20 years of maintenance records from him and the previous owner. The paint clear coat has some warts (cracks) but I don't think that would be unexpected.
Yesterday I installed a Crown OPDA following the video in the How-To thread. No problems.
Today I changed oil and filter.
Future plans are changing all driveline fluids and installing Dana diff covers. They have drain plugs to make life easier.

Congratulations!

This thing will actually spend quite a bit of time in the desert. I don't rock crawl or play in mud but I enjoy exploring abandoned mines and old town sites. As an example here is my ZR2 in my stomping grounds. The tires on the Jeep are the LT Falken Wildpeak ATM. A decent tire.
I can't wait to get it out there.
