I recently replaced the fill neck assembly on my 2005 TJ but the gas valve keeps kicking off when filling. I had to cut the hose (length) that runs from the new filler neck to the gas tank to eliminate a big kink. I have reduced the size of the kink drastically but I don't think the smaller kink is causing the problem. I've checked and saw no plugs in the vent line back to the 6" hose that is attached to the tubing that goes back to the top of the gas tank. Is this correct or does the tube go back to a charcoal or some other cannister? Is there something else I can check to eliminate this problem. Any suggestions is appreciated.

welcome to the party ;)

there's a rollover valve in the top of the tank at the entrance of the filler hose that swells up and gets stuck and causes this issue, as well as another one that causes it to actually burp fuel back out of the filler when it clicks off. Which issue you get just depends on which position the plunger gets stuck in.

This thread has the details https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/wrangler-tj-gas-overflow-fix.244/
but the short of it is you drop the tank, remove the plunger, sand down some nubs so it works smoothly in it's cage, and put it all back together. After messing around for a couple of years I finally did mine last summer and it's been problem free since.
