Hello all,

Plenty of lurking but first post here. I've acquired a 2006 unlimited which has sat for ~ 2 years. I am slowly checking things before I try to start it. Getting it running will determine whether I'm up for the rest of the work it needs. I want to get the old fuel out of the tank but there's no Schrader valve on the fuel rail. The tank skid plate and related bolts are rusted pretty bad so removing the tank won't be easy. Siphon through filler is hitting the roll over valve. If I can pull the fuel fill hose off at the tank can I pull the valve out there? I've only read accessing the inside of the tank by removing the pump and using that hole to push the valve out.

Thanks in advance.

Brian

Disconnect the fuel line at the engine. Connect a hose there and run to a fuel container (or several) large enough to contain all your fuel. Jump the fuel pump relay in the PDC to run the pump, and that will empty your tank.

Hi Nashville ,

I’ll have to check when I get home. I’d thought the only place to disconnect hose was going into fuel rail and was under the assumption it has a valve on the line itself. Tank is bit more than 1/4 full.

There is a check valve, but that is back at the tank and only keeps the fuel from flowing back into the tank.

Been a while since I’ve seen a stock fuel system, but I believe the connection to the fuel rail is a quick connect which may require a tool to remove.

Hopefully someone else here will check my math on this one…

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I thought the connector on the line into the fuel rail had a check valve there to hold pressure in the system. I'm guessing though so I'll check it tonight. Thanks for the suggestion !

I’ve done this several times on the Hemi, but I believe my fuel rail connection is easier to disconnect.

On the '06 4.0 the fuel line quick disconnect is at the front of the fuel rail.

Just an update to this.

Turns out the fuel connection at the frame rail needs a tool to take off and the local parts store did not have.
It has a stainless keeper on it as well which comes off easily but you need the tool to slide into the connection to release it.

I took the wheel well liner out and was able to get the filler hose off. Some careful prying with a screw driver and some WD40 helped a lot . The siphon hose I had just barely fit past the valve and I was able to get ~ 4 gallons out of the tank.

Now to get the belt tensioner replaced so I can see if it will start.

Thanks for the suggestions NashvilleTJ!
